Without Hope, There is no Faith

Happy Sunday everyone,

We’ve often heard a lot about faith and grace, but there is one which is spoken of as much as grace and faith, and that is hope. Hope in this sense of today’s write-up means the virtuous desire for future good. One thing we must understand is that without hope, we cannot have faith, for Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Before we have faith, there must be hope for that thing.

Now, let us not forget that our hope is the power of our imagination, while faith is the belief of that image as being real after it must be given to us by grace from God. As Apostle Paul in Romans 8:24 said, “For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?” Now, faith is not seen in the present, but it is that which God has given us already, only for us to see it physically at its appointed time, the power that keeps us going is the power of our imagination, which is hope. Now the hope must be in line with faith, which establishes that we have received what we hoped for. But there was a hope for a thing before we received it by grace, then as we understand that it has been given to us, the belief of the existence of that thing is faith, but that which keeps us going is hope.

Our Father Abraham, it was said of him in Hebrews 11:17-19, “By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.” What this means is that Abraham never saw Isaac dead, he had a strong assurance that as long as God had said through Isaac his seed shall be called, then, whatever happens, won’t change that.

Abraham had a very strong hope on what God had told him. His hope was to have a child, but to maintain that through the journey of faith with God was the power of hope, as he kept on seeing what he had hoped for, because faith says it is real, but you need to journey to that place, but to keep you in check is through the power of our imagination which is hope, as Father Abrahams hope was very much in line with the faith of his son being the seed to his lineage, which was what made God very impressed.

As much as we work on our faith, let us also work on our hope, for without hope, we cannot have faith.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
