How To Listen To The Holy Spirit

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I was able to explain how you gain access to the Holy Spirit easily and allow Him to show you God’s provision. The aspect of trust and belief was emphasised. Today, I would explain how you could train yourself to follow the Holy Spirit easily.

One thing we should understand is that we often times claim not know when the Holy Spirit is speaking to us. This can be true, but the question here is, ‘how are you searching for Him?’ First of all what’s your heart like? What do I mean? What I mean here is that you must hunger and thirst for God’s direction. Jesus said in Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Some translations use “satisfied” in place of the word “filled”.

You know when I wanted the Holy Spirit to direct me, I had to really seek Him, and in other words, I had to believe that no other person was going to come to my aid here, not my friends, family, books or any other thing. It is when you come to this state of mind that you would then be able to know when the Holy Spirit is directing you, after going through the Word of course. Why is the Word important? It is important because after studying the Word, it is the Holy Spirit who explains the Word to us, He interprets it to us. We must understand that the Word is not just like your regular books. The Word of God contains mysteries and secrets beyond human understanding which only the person who created the mysteries and secret can explain [ref. Ephesians 1:17-18].

The truth about this whole thing is that once you have a plan B, in case the Holy Spirit doesn’t reveal Himself, you most certainly won’t hear Him, because your mind already is divided. The moment you place your confidence on another thing, your attention starts to shake. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 says, “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.”

God choosing the base things doesn’t mean those who don’t have an educational upbringing, rather they are those who didn’t consider whatever knowledge they have as superior to the knowledge, standard and wisdom of God, just as Apostle Paul did, who counted all he studied as rubbish just because he recognised the superiority of the Word of God [ref. Philippians 3:8]. Until you keep building yourself up in this understanding, hearing or getting directions from the Holy Spirit would be difficult.

We all are growing in Christ, but the fact that you started hearing the Holy Spirit, implies that you forfeited things to hear the Holy Spirit, as you keep forfeiting things to hear the Holy Spirit, you hear the Holy Spirit better. Doing this shows your trust and belief in Jesus Christ, He is your direction and life. When He said He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, He actually meant it [John 14:6].

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
