The Shepherd's Voice, and His Sheep

Happy Sunday everyone,

Jesus in John 10:11 said He is the good shepherd, and He gives life to His sheep. His sheep here are those who listened to Him when they never had a Father and placed their lives in His hands. But my focus is on John 10:27-28, which says, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” The question now is, ‘who are Jesus’ sheep?’ and ‘how do they hear His voice and are sure it is His?’ These are my focus today.

The sheep Jesus spoke of is a figure of speech to explain the born-again experience, especially when He said He gives life to the sheep of His fold. Therefore, it is clear who Jesus’ sheep are—they are the Sons of God. Now, how do they hear His voice and are sure it is Jesus’?

Becoming born again isn’t an automatic ticket for you to suddenly start behaving perfectly, and hearing Jesus’ directly at a high level of maturity, why is that? It is so because when anyone becomes born again, the spirit of the person becomes the full, mature and exact Spirit of Jesus, but the soul needs to be trained and groomed to know Who the Spirit has become. It is when this is done regularly that the Sons of God can know when Jesus calls and be sure that He is the One.

When you see identical twins, they appear so hard to distinguish who is who, but when you spend time with just one of them regularly, the moment the other twin appears, you immediately see the differences between the twins. Likewise, we are to meditate on the word of God day and night, thus understanding who we have become, also knowing Jesus intimately, this is when we recognise the voice of the good Shepherd. The devil can try, but those who know their God won’t fall prey.

Jesus, being the Good Shepherd, has laid down His life for the sheep, this is why nobody can snatch anyone away from the Lord because He is our protector and deliverer. He guides and directs us as we follow Him. And as David said in Psalm 23:2, “He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.” Jesus would go through every length to take care of us, beyond our wildest imagination. All we need to do is to meditate constantly on His word, and we would hear Him clearly and be sure.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
