The Anointing and The Leading

Hello everyone,

I have met some people who intend to do a thing, but they are not equipped with the necessary tools to carry out the job. Also, I have met some people who are equipped with tools for a job but have no idea on what to do. But there is a set of people who have the skill and tools for a job, but one thing is clear, even with the skills and resources, the skilled cannot do anything without being given instruction on what exactly needs to be done using the resources on the ground. The same can be seen spiritually to those who are Sons of God. We often think when a person is anointed, therefore things would start working automatically, without putting into consideration certain important things, because to be anointed isn’t the same as being led by the Holy Spirit. Some would say they know this already, but that isn’t what many portray, and explaining the difference between being anointed and being led by the Holy Spirit is what my write-up is focused on today.

In the old covenant, there were selected people who were anointed by God, and to be anointed would imply you being used by God, thus, having the Holy Spirit with them. People such as Moses, Bezaleel, and Aholiab (ref.: Exodus 31:1-6), Samuel, David, the High Priests, and others in a similar trend.  But that changed when Jesus resurrected under the new covenant. Everyone born of God is anointed, thus having the Holy Spirit living in them, what makes the difference is what each person is anointed for. And when a person is anointed to be a Pastor, many think the Pastor alone is anointed, but that’s not it. The anointing for Pastoral ship can be given to only one person in an area, but that doesn’t take away the truth that those who are born of God are anointed.

Now, to be anointed is likened to a person who is given a skill, as some of them include being a Pastor. But if everyone who is born of God is anointed, it implies that they too are given a sill for something. And they could be in music, writing, speaking, business, and many, many areas, it is just for the Son of God to discover his calling, which is what he or she is anointed to do.

As I said, to be anointed is likened to a person who is given skill, and in this case, the person is empowered with skill, as many didn’t know how to do what they are doing before they were anointed by God to do that thing. And a person could be anointed to do another thing as the need arises. For instance, a person who received Jesus as Lord, received the anointing to play the piano, but when the need arose, he was further anointed to become a Pastor. Now, as I said, to be anointed isn’t the same as being led by the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus called the twelve, he empowered them which could be anointing. Now, after being anointed they waited for instructions from Jesus, which today with the coming of the Holy Spirit is being led by the Holy Spirit. Jesus was the one who told them where to go, how to go, and what to do. It wasn’t the disciples who took the initiative to go anywhere they liked, but they followed specific instructions to go to the lost sheep of Israel, this is how we who are anointed are meant to live our lives (ref.: Matthew 10:1-15; Mark 6:7-13; Luke 9: 1-6).

Many times we see those who are anointed doing the thinking themselves, and after they have finalised on their thought, they pray to God on what they have finalised by themselves, this is not being led by the Holy Spirit. Pastors, in particular, are expected to ask the Lord what He wants them to do, how He wants them to do it, in short, the Holy Spirit does the thinking for us.

Remember, we are vessels used by God (ref.: 2 Timothy 2:20-21), we are not the one to dictate what we are to do, this is why even after being anointed, we could end up in a fix, and you wonder what you did wrong. But I’ll tell you what you did wrong, you took the decision yourself. When Apostle Paul was converted, Jesus warned him to quickly get out of a Jerusalem at a point, and another time Jesus told him He would send him to the Gentiles (ref.: Acts 22:18 and 21). Jesus is the One who directs our every step through the Holy Spirit.

If you are born of God, and things aren’t going fine in any way, and you seem confused, know this, you are anointed by God with a skill. What you are to do is to ask Him what He wants you to do, and He will always answer. For it is not in man way to direct his steps, but the Lord directs our steps. And remember, being anointed isn’t the same thing as being led by the Holy Spirit.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
