Faith and Prayer

Hi everyone,

Wow, I’ve had tonnes of things to pray for, request I mean. Every time, I seek God’s face over a particular thing, on and on and on again. I even got used the acronym of PUSH, which means, Pray Until Something Happens. But it wasn’t until I kept on meditating that I found out that children of God are not actually meant to pray for their needs to be met. The only time we are to pray is when we are praying for others. But why is that so? Let’s find out.

The truth is the truth, and once God has said it, nothing can change it. The scriptures in several places say, we are to walk and live by faith, and what is faith? With another simple definition in line with today’s focus, faith means, all that I wished for God has given me, and I believe He has given me. Note this, faith is not in the future tense but in the ‘now’. In other words, there is no need for prayer of a request for our personal needs, it is the only prayer of thanksgiving, which shows that we walk by faith and not by sight. It shows we trust God and have no doubt in what He has done.

But even with all these, there are still times we pray to God for our needs to be met, and when and why is that? As children of God, we are still growing in faith, in the Grace given to us by God. Therefore, there are areas we need to be strengthened by God, which is that we still bring our request of needs to Him in certain areas, and this is because our faith there is weak. God, on the other hand, does not appear to us as One who would answer us, rather what He does is that He assures us that He has already given us all that we would ever ask or think. In other words, we are strengthened by Him that what we do is to continuously give thanks to Him for answering us.

We are to always give thanks to God because giving thanks is an act of faith. It must not be when we see it physically before we give thanks to Him on matters on our needs, this is why it is called faith, which means you completely trust the Word God has spoken.

The aspect of Thanksgiving doesn’t have to do with our needs alone, rather it has to do with whatever aspect we face, even when praying for others. The moment we get that assurance and peace of mind over an issue, what we are to do is to begin to thank God always, because this strengthens our confidence and faith in God, believing He has done it. Why ask for what you have been given, this is what every child of God should remember.

Our prayer should be more of thanksgiving, when intercession comes, it has its place. But when we receive the peace of God in our heart that our intercession has been answered even when we haven’t seen the result physically, we are to begin to give God thanks over that situation. Prayer is a dialogue, and God is not deaf. He is merciful and just and knows our heart request even before we bring it to Him. This is why we received Jesus, for in Him resides all things, He is the Grace we received. He is God Himself and He lives in us, so we ought to always give God thanks over every situation in our lives, using His Word to strengthen us that since He said it, it is done.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
