To Live And Not Just Exist

Hmmmmn… you’re born, you go through primary, secondary school and then you go to the university. You get a good job, later acquire wealth probably through investment; you get married, have children, grow old, retire, have grandchildren probably have great grandchildren and then go and see the Lord. This looks like a great life right? But is this what you were born for; to just repeat a routine of life and die? Nothing has been added!

Even if you choose to go to church and read the bible regularly but end up following the same sequence of life you just existed, that’s all. Now don’t get me wrong, going to school is wonderful; of course if you didn’t school, you probably won’t know how to read, not to talk of writing. These however are the basic things to be learnt. My point here is for you to know the reason for your existence here on earth. There is reason for your existence and it defers from another person. The real reason for your existence is not a routine created by man.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:13 “Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.” (Message). Ok, so our attitude is expected to reflect godliness, but let’s further look at the verses ahead, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and [aa] recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 AMP).

Our being salt and light is to reflect Jesus. As Jesus said He is the light of the world and those who follow Him shall have the light of life [ref. John 8:12]. This light is the same light as that of Matthew 5, we are to reflect Him. What this implies is that when we accept Jesus as Lord and have received the Holy Spirit, after this the mystery about our life is then revealed as we remain in Him [ref. Colossians 1:27]. We are to live the will of God for our lives and it can only be gotten in Jesus Christ.

So, how can we do this? The bible makes us understand that Christ is our life [ref. Colossians 3:4]. Therefore, our life itself should be Jesus personified every second of our life; that is, being led by the Holy Spirit, whether at school, work or anywhere. People should notice the difference in the way you do things, and how successful you are, always portraying the fruit of the Spirit and would cause them to ask what you do differently from others just as I said yesterday; this is when you tell them how Jesus gave you a new life and He being your direction. This would cause them to praise God in heaven for such Grace He has given to men.

Your life should not be a rigid, religious way of doing things, like living your life of the law and living Jesus’ life of Grace. You can’t mix the two; Christ is your life, you are breathing Him! We are here on a mission which of course would imply that we as Believers shouldn’t live the general life, because there is a specific life God has called you for, and this requires deep commitment to your calling in Christ by not being distracted.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
