As we battle along as
believers in faith, we need to be
thoroughly equipped. This is because the devil is thoroughly equipped himself! But one thing is certain; he
can’t defeat a thoroughly equipped believer. So, how can we be thoroughly
equipped? Through the Word! (the bible); believers receive directions from the
Holy Spirit in different ways such as, hearing Him directly; through dreams,
vision, circumstances and so on, but with all these, they are all secondary to
the major source of direction gotten from God Himself. The major source of
direction from God is the Word of God (the bible).
As we believe in the
Holy Spirit, He doesn’t communicate with us when we haven’t first studied the
Word of God first; that is why Jesus calls Him our helper [ref. John 14:15-18;
16:5-15], what is He to help us with? As I said earlier, to interpret the Word
of God correctly, guiding us into all truth.
We must note the fact
that the secondary sources, that is, the means at which the Holy Spirit
communicates with us MUST correspond with the Word of God and not the other way
round. This is because when you study and meditate on the Word, the secondary
sources then explains what you studied for clarity in living our daily lives. So,
in simple terms, the Holy Spirit look up to the Word of God when interpreting
to us.
In order to get the
Holy Spirit to direct you, you have to be hungry for the Word of God. It has to
appear as a do or die affair, making up your mind that the Word of God is the
only way to follow. Now this is not being dogmatic; to be dogmatic implies that
there are standards on the same level and you decided to pick one and hold on
to it completely without seeing why the other are not worth it. However, when
one chooses to take the Word of God as the only way, the person must have
observed that the Word of God is not like other theories, it is a living Word which
refreshes ones being and doesn’t base its standard on experiences, observation,
theories, but it is the guiding principle every other written word tries to
follow or become. And most of all the person must understand that the Word of
God is person (as I stated earlier as a living Word), who is Jesus Christ!
I really don’t want
to dive into another topic but as the scriptures says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17. We live our lives by faith, and this faith is not our faith,
but the faith of Jesus Christ [ref. 2 Corinthians 5:17], so if you really
hunger for the direction from God through the Holy Spirit, study the person who
keeps you going, the Word who is Jesus. As you hunger to know Him because He is
your life [ref. Colossians 3:4], then the rest is easy, getting directions from
the Holy Spirit is piece of cake. But you have to be very observant because God
has a way He communicates to you and you have to know that so that you don’t
mix it up with the voice of the devil, because he speaks too!
When we allow the
Holy Spirit bring out the clarity of the Word, we become like person in Psalm 1; of whom whatever he does
prospers. Now, prosperity also includes; not falling for the temptation of the
devil [ref. 1 Corinthians 10:13]; the Holy Spirit guides us as we live our
daily lives. Can’t you see how easy things are? And this is because of the love
God has for us and this is the gospel truth.
Why not accept Jesus
today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus,
I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God
raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank
You for saving me!” Congratulations,
you’re born again, you are now brand new!
