OK, imagine two persons you know. One hasn't received Jesus as His Lord, in other words, isn't born again, while the other one is born again. Galatians 5:19-21 talks of the works of the flesh such as adultery, jealousy, envy and so on. What you observed is that two of these people exhibit works of the flesh. The question now is are both of them sinners, better still, why is the person who claims to be born again still exhibiting the works of the flesh?
Now, a quick one, there are two nature's of living. The first is the nature of sin, which came from Adam, which we were all born into, while the second is the nature of God, which comes from our Lord Jesus Christ. No one can have both natures at the same time, (ref.: Romans 5:18&19; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20).
The one who isn’t born again has the nature of sin, which is a carnal way of life that is enmity again God. But the one who is born again has received the life of Jesus, which is the life of the Spirit, that is one with God.
The reason why you still find the works of the flesh in the behaviour of the born again person is not because he has the nature of sin, but because he is ignorant of who he is right now. In other words, he hasn't come to the full understanding of who is new life is.
The scriptures says in Romans 12:1&2, "Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. ²Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes." TPT.
A person who just got born again is like a baby, and shouldn't be left alone, but should be taken care of by a mature Son or Daughter of God, whom the Lord would use as he or she guides the young born again person into growth in the fulness of Christ, making the person aware of what he or she has received. And as the person becomes more aware the soul submits to who the Spirit has become, and it reflects in the daily living of the person. And in so doing, the works of the flesh reduces drastically and the fruit of the Spirit start to show forth.
The presence of the works of the flesh in a Son or Daughter of God is a state of emptiness, which indicates ignorance. However, the Holy Spirit would have been pricking the person, as the person would have been feeling uncomfortable in some areas or doing what isn't of Christ. But the person can only know who he or she is, when being fed with the Spiritual food, and being led by the Holy Spirit in living the life of Jesus.
As a whole, the works of the flesh could be lurking around the empty side of a Son or Daughter of God, no matter how little, because that place hasn't received the illumination of who he or she is in Christ.
Now, the battle where there is the need to feed one's mind with the word of God lies within the soul, because the soul is where the ignorance lies, and should be illuminated with the light and life of Christ, allowing the soul to function in full capacity of who the Spirit now is. But in any and every way, the carnal way of living is enmity against God, so it is important to renew our minds quickly, so as not to fall prey of the evil one.
And don't forget, the moment you have Jesus as Lord, you have His nature, meaning, you are no longer a sinner. So, you need to feed your mind with you new food, (ref.: Romans 6:1-14).
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
