Grace and Mercy

Hello everyone,

Many people think God is a mean being, or to put it in a less serious manner, many people see God as a very strict being, that is ready to strike you the moment you falter, wow, but is that really who God is? Let’s find out.

God cannot be referred to as strict, rather He is disciplined but yet merciful. It is this mercy people do not really see, or maybe they know but haven’t experienced it. Let’s take a look at John 8 where a woman caught in the act of adultery was brought to Jesus. Those who brought her said she was caught in the very act and should be stoned according to the Law of Moses, then they asked Him what His take was on the matter, this they did to test Him. Ordinarily, if Jesus allowed her go out of mercy, then He would have broken the Law and they would have something to hold on to, also if He asked for her to be stoned, it would be against the Roman government that ruled over them; but Jesus wasn’t trying to be smart by looking for a good way to get out this trap, instead He simply said the truth in wisdom.

Jesus replied in John 8:7, “So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”” It was then clear at that point that you can’t punish one of sin when you too are also the sinner, so they left. But do you know there was someone there who would have cast the stone at her? It was Jesus because He was without sin, but instead of doing that, what did He do? “When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” she said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” This was mercy and grace in action.

Jesus made it clear to her that He disliked her act of adultery by telling to go and sin no more, but how was she going to do that because sin was her nature? The only way she was going to sin no more was because she had seen the mercy and grace shown to her by Jesus, for John 3:17 says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that world through Him might be saved.”

It is the display of love, grace and mercy from God alone that can bring you out of sin into the brand new life of God through Christ Jesus. God is disciplined as He maintains His standards, but He takes us up as His own children and bring us up in love, which naturally bring out the Christ-like nature from inside ourselves, that is to those who have received Christ as Lord, and to those who haven’t, they want to know Him the more.

The mercy of God was what made God give us His grace through the love He has towards us, understanding His love is greater than what we could ever imagine. Log on tomorrow as I continue on this topic.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
