Hello everyone,
I’ve been writing on the mercy of God in the midst of how disciplined He is. I explained how God loves sinners but hates the sin. I also explained how Jesus displayed this action as He treated the woman caught in the act of adultery, it was through the mercy shown to her by Jesus that was the foundation of her transformation. The only true transformation comes from the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, without which no one would understand the mercy and love of God. Today, I intend to elaborate on the mercy of God and how it was possible for God to accept us even after we falter through mercy, I will explain how there is no contradiction to how God operates.
Many times people quote Romans 3:23 alone, but they forget that quoting that verse alone is quoting the verse without context. The head of that verse started from verse 21 and ended at verse 26, reading Romans 3:21-26 would give you a clear view of why verse 23 came about in the first place.
God has a very high standard which is not attainable by any man, however, only one man attained this level of perfection, and He is Jesus the Christ. When you go through the Law of Moses, you will find a lot of unattainable things there. The Law wasn’t bad, on the contrary, it was very holy, and it was we who couldn’t keep it. The truth was that to keep the Law, your heart has to be as perfect and pure as the Law was, or else all that you would be doing would be out of hypocrisy, which was what the Pharisees did.
It was because of our imperfections that the Law exposed our sins. Apostle Paul said in Romans 7:7, “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”” The Law was the one that exposed us all, but many thought if they worked at it harder, they would eventually keep the Law, but that was not true, it was impossible to keep the Law. The Law was only given to us to show us how imperfect and miserable we were before God and how we needed a way out, in order words we needed a saviour, one who would rescue us from all these messes.
According to the Amplified version, Hebrews 9:22 says, “[In fact] under the Law almost everything is purified by means of blood, and without the shedding of blood there is neither release from sin and its guilt nor the remission of the due and merited punishment for sins.” In summary, our superhero had to die for us in order for us to be set free. For every sin, there was a punishment which was meted out by God Himself, and it is this same God that is merciful? Let me show you how.
Jesus was the only man of pure blood and therefore, He had to be the sacrifice for us that we may live. The mercy of God is that we all were to die for our iniquities, but He placed it on the sacrifice who is Jesus. That’s not all, we did not even realise we needed a saviour, still, God wanted to save mankind, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” Roman 5:8.
Every punishment that was to be placed on us, were all placed on Jesus, past, present, and future sins were all placed on Jesus because He died for our sins once and for all. Bulls and goat were offered to represent Christ, but they could not wash away sins permanently which was why they were always offered, but the blood of Jesus cleansed us once and for all, permanently [ref. Hebrews 10:4, 10].
God made us His righteousness even when we never deserved it [ref. 2 Corinthians 5:21], we have now received a new spirit, that is for those who have chosen to receive what God has offered us. But we won’t know why we need to receive this new spirit of God until we know the reason, which is mercy, love, and grace, explaining the finished works of Christ, and not fear of hell as many present these days. Fear is not the message, but the mercy of God is the message which is why it is called the good news.
To those who have received this new spirit, we are not only to live in it, but also walk in it, displaying the new life in Christ, which we received through His resurrection. Telling people about Christ and not living it is a turn away for many, and I don’t mean the religious, fanatical way of doing things, placing the Bible over their chest as they move, but living a life that shows one being loved and cared for, because really that’s what God does to us as we are now adopted sons and daughters of God. But my write-up on the mercy of God hasn’t ended, log on tomorrow as I continue on the mercy of God.
May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
