Grace and Mercy (Part 2)

Hello everyone,

Last time I explained how God is so merciful even when He maintains His standards. I explained how He hates sin, but loves the sinner and would everything to get the sinner to stop the bad habit, which He did through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Also, showing a tip of His love for us, I used the woman caught in the act of adultery to explain how God’s mercy flows towards us, even as He hates the sin itself. Today is a continuation from yesterday, explaining how loving God is.

Many think to accept a person even when they falter is wrong, but they need to properly understand how God deals with matters. First of all, if God was to judge us based on performance, we would all be burnt and dead by now, because no one is perfect or righteous when it comes to performance, our righteousness when we accept Jesus as Lord is actually the righteousness of Christ which He gave to us through Grace.

What we need to understand is that if one fornicates, steals, over-drinks, lies and does many other things in this manner doesn’t make you better than them because your actions are not presentable to God, as He said not one of us is righteousness even with all the ceremonial cleansing that we feel makes us acceptable before Him [ref. Romans 3:10-18].

I remember when I was in the University, the range of score from 0-39 was regarded as ‘F’, so even when a person scores ‘39’ and another scored ‘0’, there was nothing like a strong F and a weak F, all were recorded as F, likewise, there is no small sinner and weak sinner, the Bible says in Romans 3:23, “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” no one is good enough and this was what Jesus showed the men who brought the woman caught in the act of adultery, when He said, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

Jesus condemned the woman’s actions but did not condemn her, which was why He granted her mercy. We should show our fellow neighbours and family love by condemning their wrong actions but showing them mercy, it is only there and then that the love of Christ is revealed and understood in their heart that makes them stop the sinful act, because after Romans 3:23, it continues in verse 24 and 25 saying, “…being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”

We must understand that God hates the sin, but He loves His children, which is why Jesus died and His blood has washed every sin, and as such we are now the righteousness of God [ref. 2 Corinthians 5:21]. We can only know, understand and receive this great grace and mercy of God when it is His love for us that we hear and then meditate on. Those who spread the word of God out should only spread the love and mercy of God which is found in the finished works of Christ.

When we keep studying and meditating on the reason for finished of works Christ, understanding how much God loved us and what we have received even when we really don’t deserve them, this is the gospel truth that transforms us on and on as we get perfected physically in line with the perfect Spirit of God, which is in those who accepted Christ as Lord. The mercy of God is so deep that we cannot fully understand it.

Those who condemn people for their wrong have no love in them or they don’t understand the love of God. The Bible says in Romans 5:20b, “But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more”, this was to show the power that the love and mercy of God through Christ has brought us. His love washes away the sinful nature physically. As you meditate on His love and mercy, you start to see your bad habits fade away because as you meditate, you are to confess who you are in Christ, and you can only receive this by surrendering to Him. You won’t understand why you have to surrender until you hear what He has done for you. This is the gospel truth.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
