Wow, it's four days to Christmas!
Do you know there wouldn't have been Christmas to celebrate if certain words weren't said by Mary, the mother of Jesus. But I won't be looking into that today. My focus is on the event that happened before the event of Mary, based on the account of Luke.
The event before that of Mary was the event involving Zacharias who was a priest with no child of his own because his wife was barren. He and his wife, Elizabeth were advanced in years, but had always prayed to have offsprings of theirs.
Now, it happened that while Zacharias was burning incense in the temple, Gabriel an angel of the Lord God Almighty appeared to him. Yeah, me too... that would have been a scary moment, which was why the angel asked him not to be afraid.
The angel told Zacharias that the prayers of Elizabeth, his wife and himself has been answered, and Elizabeth will have child for him—Zacharias.
Zacharias was surprised that despite his old age, he could still be told he would have a child. So, it was hard for him to believe. His doubt was beyond the fact that an angel of the Lord told him he would have a child.
In order for Zacharias not to ruin the perfect plan of the Lord God, Gabriel the angel said to Zacharias in Luke 1:20, "But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.” This goes to show that our words can delay the plans of God, but it can't stop God's plan from coming to pass because God's word cannot return to Him void, it must be fulfilled, (ref. Isaiah 55:11).
For angel Gabriel to have made Zacharias mute implies God wanted the plan to happen at that particular time, and nothing could stop the plan of God from being accomplished, because God has an appointed time for anything to happen.
We shouldn't be a cause for delayed blessings in our lives. As He has said it, we should not negate it, which would delay the flow of God's word from coming to pass.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
