Why Curses Cannot Affect You

Hi, everyone,

Blessings and curses, these two are terms we are familiar with. Both terms come from words showing a person’s expression from the heart towards another, these words could be blessing or curse, and if the receiver deserves it due to the action displayed, the person could be affected by the words spoken.

In the scriptures, we must have read or heard about the popular blessings and curses chapter of Deuteronomy 28, where 14 verses are for blessings, while 54 verses are for curses, making a total of 68 verses in the chapter. Many of us believe these chapter and expect that curses could affect a person. Many also believe in the generational curse which the scriptures say could run down to the fourth generation, (ref.: Exodus 34:7). Is it possible not to be affected by curses?

The truth about all these is that blessings and curses still exist, but curses cannot affect everyone anymore. When the Adam fell, mankind was affected as the spirit of man was imperfect and was carnal, thus was enmity against God, (ref.: Romans 8:6-7), so everything man did was wrong, and for man to know this there had to be a laws in place to serve as a check. The law wasn’t meant to perfect us, rather it was meant to show us how imperfect we were and the need for a saviour which is the very important factor many have failed to understand, what do I mean?

As mankind was imperfect, the curses of Deuteronomy 28 and any other curse due to man’s imperfections could affect mankind. The point here was that there was a need for a saviour, right? Which was what Jesus Christ came for. Galatians 3:10-14 explains what happened when our saviour came,

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.” Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

The presence of the curse originated from sin, and to clear the curse is to get rid of its source—sin, and this is what Jesus did on the cross, He took every curse placed on us upon Himself, and in exchange He gave us His life, we, in turn, became the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, (ref.: 2 Corinthians 5:21). God punished Jesus for our sake, in other words, the punishment that was meant for us was placed on Jesus, which includes the curses.

Jesus was raised with a brand new life from the grave, it is this brand new life of Christ that we now have, which is why when we receive Jesus into our lives, the cursed spirit dies and the new man who is Jesus now lives in us, as Christ is, so are we in this world, (ref.: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 2:11-15, 1 John 4:17). If you say curses can affect you, then what you’re saying is that the curses can also affect Jesus, because we must understand is that whatever happens to Jesus is what affects us that’s all, because He is our life, you have been cut off from the generation of the old Adam and grafted into the life of the second/last Adam—Jesus, therefore, there is no generational curse that can affect you.

If any curse affects you, it is because you have been believing the lies of the devil, or you are ignorant of who you are in Christ, or you haven’t received Jesus as Lord, simple. AS A SON OF GOD, YOU CAN NEVER EVER BE UNDER A CURSE, ONLY THE BLESSINGS OF CHRIST JESUS OPERATES IN AND THROUGH YOU, DON’T LET ANYONE DECEIVE YOU.

THIS IS THE GOSPEL TRUTH!!

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
