Spiritual Muscles

I looked at life and found out that to get anything done there must be commitment and consistency.

I remembered when I wanted to start having push ups. The very first time I ever tried it, I could barely go for just two. The strain was so much for me. But it wasn't until decided to commit myself to it. And after push myself to go further consistently that one day I was eventually able to push up to 40. It was so easy for me that I went for 40 everyday.

But when I wasn't consistent, I tried going my 50 push ups, but was able to, my muscles wasn't used to it any longer, simply because I wasn’t consistent at it.

I noticed this for studies and anything I wanted to do. It was just like building up muscles. But one thing that caught my attention was that it was the same with the Spirit, as it pertains to us.

Mark 16:17-18 Jesus said those who believe in His name would cast out devil's, speak in new tongues, lay hands on the sick to recover and more. But have you ever wondered why some believers don't function in this capacity? The answer is simple, they haven't built their spiritual muscles enough.

A person who is born again has a new spirit, and has inherited the life and characteristics of Jesus, and in so doing is expected to function as Jesus, (ref.: 1 John 4:17).

So, how do we build our spiritual muscles?

We build our spiritual muscles through the committed and consistent meditation on the word of God.

Let us understand one thing. The word doesn't imply books like those you find in school. Rather the word is living, and not just living, it is powerful, and is the very essence of God, (ref.: John 1:1; Hebrews 4:12), (To differentiate the Word and the word would be a write up for another day).

The more we meditate on the word of God we allow the Holy spirit to lead and guide us into the perfect life of Jesus in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, which includes actions.

The more we build our spiritual muscles the more we completely drop the ways of the flesh and live the life of the Spirit completely. The more we know the word, the more we understand things like fasting, speaking in tongues, praying, praising, worship and more. In summary, the word is the foundation to everything.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
