If you think God Almighty is like an angry old man holding thunder bolts in His hands, looking for anyone who sinned to strike, guess again. Unlike the wrong impression of who God is, God actually is like a mother who cares for her baby. No matter what her baby does, she so loves her baby.
Zephaniah 3:17 says, "The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior [Who saves]! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest [in silent satisfaction] and in His love He will be silent and make no mention [of past sins, or even recall them]; He will exult over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17 AMPC. This is a deep expression of how much God loves us, even though it is just a scratch on the surface of how much He loves us.
Zephaniah 3:17 says God is the midst of us, a Mighty One, a Saviour. What this means is that He is like a grown up who we look up to when we walk where bullies are or where wild animals are.
The verse continues saying that He will rejoice over us with joy. What this means is that our presence gives Him so much joy that He rejoices. He depicts One who treasures us so much.
The verse goes further to say that God will rest, and in His love will make no mention of our past sins nor even recall them. This show a loving Father who shows mercy and forgives, (ref. John 3:16; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:4; 2 Thessalonians 2:16; 1 John 4:9-10; Revelation 1:5). For Him to take note of our sins shows a disciplined Father. But even when we sin, His love overshadows them because we rest in His love.
The truth about all these is that His love toward us causes us to sin less, because all we see is His love and we grow into it.
Just like a mother is to her baby, even God Almighty does tremendously more. His love compels us to live like Him. He dances over us with singing! What a loving, caring, and great God we have.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
