Misplaced Prosperity

Happy Weekend everyone,

My focus in today’s write-up has been written several times, but I would still bring it up again as it is a link from yesterday’s write-up. A lot of us don’t understand what prosperity means to a Son of God. As one who has received Jesus as Lord, you have a reason for being here on earth, and God has assigned you on a mission which I would like to call your ‘true job’, but we often times think we need to run around to earn a living, by going about the routine of the world. I often times see prayer sessions for people to get a job so that they can earn a living. This doesn’t sound wrong right? But for a Son of God, it is praying for what has been given to you already. The scripture talks about being led by the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Truth. Jesus said in John 16:13 that the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. He also said in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit will teach you all things. So, when we are praying for a job, what job are we praying for?

I see Sons of God praying for material things which Jesus in Matthew 6:33 calls addition. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 6:31-32, “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32for after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.” But what do we have today, is this not the way many Sons of God live their lives? I call this misplaced prosperity.

Through Jesus, God has already given us a duty or a job as I would call it. Now, this duty is not just a job but our way of life here on earth. It is a mission, a mandate which we were sent as Ambassadors of Christ for, which we must complete before the second coming of Jesus Christ. So, how do we accomplish His assignment? Jesus gave us a hint when He sent out the twelve in Matthew 10. He said in Matthew 10:9-10, “Provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts, 10nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.”

Jesus didn’t mean that they would suffer to get to their destination. What He meant was that He would be the one to provide for them as they go supernaturally. The one who sends you on a mission has provided for you already, all you need to do is to follow his instructions, the same thing applied to the twelve, and applies to us today, you need to identify your mission and the Holy Spirit guides you all the way, and you would see all your needs met as you go along with Him. This is what Jesus means in the popular Matthew 6:33. When you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, which is identifying your mission here on earth and living it, then the ‘all other things’ would truly be added unto you, because He would never leave you nor forsake you. This is why 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

If a car is needed in getting the mission done, it would be provided; if it is a house, it would be provided. What we just need to do is to follow His every instruction. First of all we are already blessed with all Spiritual blessings, (ref.: Ephesians 1:3), so what is the noise about giving a testimony that God has given you a car, for you to show off, whereas your testimony should be that, based on your mission, a car was needed and He has provided it; there is a difference. The way the world views prosperity is clearly different from how we are to view prosperity.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
