What is the Prayer of Supplication? (Part 1)

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I was able to explain that before we pray, we need to retune our mindset into the mindset God wants us to see ourselves, which is the way He sees us. The reason is that the understanding of who we are affects what we say to God. Today, I would be looking at the prayer of supplication.

Apostle Paul emphasised on the importance of a strong prayer life in using the whole armour of God, (ref.: Ephesians 6:18). I also wrote that we must understand that in the proper use of the armour of God, we need to let go and let God use the armour because it is His authority that is in us. We are to submit to Him, therefore, showing that the old man is crucified and Jesus is now our new life, for the devil always call our attention to the old man who doesn’t exist anymore, but because our mind is still being renewed, we tend to display some of the things the old man left behind which is what the devil forces us to see, and listening to him would make us feel that is our life, whereas that isn’t us anymore.

Ephesians 6:18 says, “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” Now, to supplicate means to earnestly ask for something with humility. Today, some of us when praying a prayer of supplication, we beg God earnestly, which could depict the meaning of the prayer really. But, what are we begging God for?

We must understand that the process of supplication before and after the resurrection of Jesus are different. For instance, when we pray earnestly for food before it is provided is different from how you pray when food is right in front of you. Every answer to our prayer is encapsulated in the person of Jesus, so, as a person who is born again, what is a prayer of supplication since Jesus is the answer to every request you’d ever make?

Apostle Paul made us understand that as a new creation, we are not to supplicate in the physical anymore, but in the Spirit, (ref.: Ephesians 6:18a), which one of the ways in the speaking of tongues. Yes, I said one of the ways, and before I write about the other ways, we must understand that the devil’s intention is to make you feel you’re wretched, and miserable, needing help, but remember, you’re a joint heir with Christ Jesus, making you seated with Him in heavenly places (ref.: Ephesians 2:4-7).

Now, in speaking in tongues, you don’t speak with your understanding because your mind is still in the process of renewal, thereby making your words corrupting the purity of a transformed language in human understanding. What we are to do when we speak in tongues is to ask for the interpretation of the tongues where you receive revelations on what do and how to do things by being led by the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Jesus Christ).

As I said, speaking in tongues is one way supplicating through prayer, which means there are other ways to pray the prayer of supplication. We also need to know the manner at which supplication becomes supplication. Find these out tomorrow as you log on, same time.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
