Don't Focus on the Wrong House

Hello everyone,

In my previous write-up, my focus was on John 4:23-24 which talks about worshiping the Father in spirit and in truth. I also made it clear that worship is meant to be our lifestyle, what we do naturally; as we meditate on the Word every day and night we then know and understand the grace which God has given us through His Son Jesus, the grace of God is true, honest, noble, pure, lovely, good report, which has virtue and is praiseworthy, things as these are what we are to focus on every day in order to fulfil that which God sent us here for. Today’s focus is still related to John 4:23-24, but I would take a look at what led to John 4:23-24.

The major event which John 4 talks about is on the conversation with Jesus and the woman from Samaria. As Jesus spoke conversed with her and talked about the living water and her life, the woman perceived Jesus as a prophet as she said in John 4:19-20, “The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” These verses were what led to Jesus’ statement in verses 23 and 24. Many of us today still call the building where the church meets as the house of God, even though many may want to claim that know that the building is not the house of God. But even when we know that the building is not the house of God, how well do we take care of the true house of God?

1 Corinthians 3:16 says, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” Apostle Paul wasn’t just referring only to the Corinthian church here, in essence, he was reminding everyone born of God who they become when they receive Jesus as Lord and saviour of their lives. We spend a lot of money on buildings that we call the house of God, yes it is good to keep where the children of God gather tidy, but we are to pay great attention to our bodies because God dwells in us and not the building!

Jesus said in John 4:21 replied the Samaritan woman, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.” Then He went on again in verses 23 and 24, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” As the Holy Spirit dwells in our beings, we are to express His nature as we keep yielding to Him, this would be easy as we get to know Him more and more.

The Amplified version puts Romans 12:1 thus, “I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.” The Message Bible makes it clearer, “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.”

God, our Father is more concerned about our heart than any other thing because out of our heart flows the issues of life, [ref.: Proverbs 4:23]. Once the heart is in right standing with God, with time our actions start to fall in place according to the life of the Holy Spirit/Jesus, and in so doing, we worship the Father in spirit and in truth.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
