The Parable of The Sower: The Difference Between The Stony Ground and the Good Ground (Part 2)

Last time, I wrote on the stony ground or the stony heart and where the person lost it, using the good heart as a yardstick; also explaining what the good heart did in not becoming the stony ground. Today I’ll explain what happened to the stony ground with its behaviour and why the good ground is different.

If you read the blog where I wrote about the stony ground, you most likely would know what happened to seed on the stony ground. But I would use that to establish my point for today.

The person with the stony heart is the one who hears the word and is full of excitement but when troubles and persecution come on account of the Word, they become offended and stumble and fall away. This person heard the Word, but did not make use of the Word! They most likely are the ones who are quick to attend Bible studies, or choir practice or any other thing related to things around the Word, but they don’t have the Word in them, they’re only active when it comes to activities. This is why when troubles come, they don’t have the Word to use as a defense.

The stony heart not having the Word in them implies that they still have their old life in them, this is why they stumble easily. The bible puts thus, “Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble.” Mark 4:17. The Amplified puts it thus, “then when trouble or persecution arises on account of the Word, they immediately are offended (become displeased, indignant, resentful) and they stumble and fall away.”

It is easy to fall away when you aren’t well grounded in the Word because the Word itself is life. To accept and understand this life is to let go of your old life and embrace this new life. This is what the good ground or the person with the good heart did; he took his time to grasp and understand the Word. This takes discipline because a seed doesn’t become a tree overnight, but as you nurture it, it becomes the multiplied state of the seed.

The seed is a life that has overcome already, and when you embrace it by dropping your old life and becoming this life, you become the Word itself, this is why the good heart was able to reap 30, 60 and 100 folds. In other words, you start to display the fruit of the Spirit, because you have taken your time to focus and dwell on the Word. To embrace the Word makes you succeed in everything your hand finds to do. However, the beginning is not easy because it takes discipline and diligence to focus on the Word; but we thank God for the Holy Spirit who is there to take us through this new life. If you know what you want and you embrace the Word, the sky would be your starting point, why? It is because you have embraced Jesus who is the Word, and as you keep focused on Him you keep displaying His perfect lifestyle. Trust me this is not a myth, it’s a reality.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
