Tongues and His Purpose

Have you ever wondered what speaking in tongues does to your life? It is so deep! Well, many would say it is speaking heavenly language not interrupted by human mind. That is true, others would say it's a way the Holy Spirit intercedes for us (ref. Romans 8:26). All these are true. But have you ever wondered what tongues really are exactly?

Let's take a look at the popular Jude 1:20. It says, "But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit." What has tongues got to do with our faith? Hold on.

Let's look at Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord , thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."

The NIV puts it thus, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV.

God has plans and thoughts for us, and these thoughts are His purpose for our lives. But He cannot force them on us, He can only reveal it to us and set the path for us to take in accomplishing this purpose. And we decide our destiny by whatever path we choose to take, and God in His mercy has shown us His path that we should take to accomplish the main reason why we are here.

So, where does tongues come in all of these?

The entire world is filled with so much evil that it affects our complete rest in Jesus. When you take a look at the life of Jesus when He live on earth, He had complete rest in God that His life was just the purpose of God for Him. In other words, the path Jesus took, which was His destiny was completely the exactly plan and purpose God had for Him, which showed the zenith of faith ever by any man on God.

Now, since we are still in the phase of renewal of our minds, we still have interruptions from the world into our thoughts and how we do things, which of course affects our perfect rest in God in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 2:20 says, we live by the faith OF the Son of God—Jesus, who has the ultimate and perfect faith, which we received when we became born again. This faith lies in our Spirit. It is then left to us to activate it through our words, in other words, through confession and belief. But there are interferences from the world. Now, this is where tongues come in.

Now, to speak in tongues is actually to confess and declare the plans and purpose of God for our life. And this is done without an interference. It is the most undiluted way of speaking God's purpose into our lives. And Proverbs 18:21 says, death and life are in the power of the tongue, what does this mean? It means when we constantly speak in tongues we are creating a perfect world for ourselves, which is the plan and purpose of God for us, which is the reason why we were created.

With this we now understand why Apostle Jude said to speak in tongues is boost our most Holy faith (ref. Jude 1:20), and why Apostle Paul said in 1st Corinthians 14:4 that speaking in tongues edifies our spirit man. But of course the source of this tongue is in God Himself which we received by the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus, who is our focus in order for tongues to have meaning, as it is done in love.

Speak in tongues, and see God's plans and purpose for you fulfilled in life.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
