Back when I was much younger, I had a memory verse from a Sunday school class I attended. The verse was Colossians 3:23, which says, "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men". It just so happened that this verse got stuck on my mind all these years. It has helped me to be strong in many ways as I grew physically and spiritually. And because of this, I decided to write on it today.
Life as a whole as we live it isn't meant to be selfish, but selfless. And being a Son or Daughter of God, it is expected that we don't just live a selfless life, we live a life as a steward, thus, having at the back of our mind that all we do is to the Lord, and not to man. The point here is that times could come up where we would want recognition for what we are doing or what we've done, but this isn't right in the sight of God. To expect appraisal from man is selfish, and not to the Lord.
True, our intention in some cases may not be to show off, but to let people understand that we've not been lazy or we've been hardworking. All these aren't signs unto the Lord. They are signs showing that we glory in our strength, and they are ways the devil could put its thoughts in our heart.
But when we understand that the main and only person we are doing whatever we do to is the Lord, we receive strength, as we are confident of the fact that He sees us even in our closet and is the best judge of all.
It also shows that we live our lives not for ourselves, but for Him, and by doing that we learn more and more how to trust in Him alone, for He will never leave us nor forsake us. And we are less a prey of the devil. By doing this we allow the power of the Lord to flow through us as we live our lives. We are not bothered at whatever people think, because the ultimate One who is our mind is our focus.
Let us continually focus on the Lord on whatever thing we do, and we will see how His perfection flows in everything we do.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
