Your New Beginning Without Procrastination

Happy New Year everyone,

Wow, 365 days have come and gone and another 365+1 days have come in this New Year. Many of us wait for this New Year to come in order to amend our ways or set new goals for ourselves, and believe we would achieve them. The question we are to ask ourselves is why we don’t get to achieve all the goals we set for the year. Although, I know many of us to achieve our goals, for those who keep repeating these New Year resolutions over and over, why don’t we achieve these goals? I’ll tell you why in a second.

The answer is simple, we procrastinate. We’ve often heard that procrastination is the thief of time. As you delay in carrying out your goals, time doesn’t wait for you. As we lose each second, we can’t get them back. So, what causes procrastination?

The first reason is that we fail to plan. But that sounds odd right, because if you didn’t plan, how did you come about those goals. Many times, what we call goals are actually dreams. It is good to have dreams, but dreams are the level that helps you achieve your goals. You need to put pen to paper on what exactly you want to achieve with the tools in mind in achieving them. Once, you have the tools in achieving these dreams, it is no longer a dream but a vision.

The Bible says in Proverbs 29:18 that, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” KJV. So, we understand how important vision is. The use of the word “perish” could also mean that your plan would fail.

The Amplified Bible of Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]-blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he.” The vision here implies the absence of revelation of God. In other words, it is like a dog barking at the wrong tree. And this brings me to the second reason as to what causes procrastination.

The second reason is that we don’t have a clear view of what we want. In other words, we have skills or talents but focus on wrong dreams and vision, and this could be very frustrating because you could be agitated and desperate to get results whereas you focused on what you were not good at. And what could be the source of the wrong focus?
