Hello everyone,
I’ve been able to identify some ways Jesus was able to identify it was the devil who was speaking to Him in His temptation, both in Matthew 4 and Luke 4, and how these ways could also be used by us in tracking down the devil when he comes deceiving. Today’s write-up is sort of a way to round up the yesterday’s topic.
As Sons of God, one thing is very important, and that is to be well grounded in the Word of God. The reason is that the Holy Spirit in every Son of God depends on the Word of God to function, in other words, the Word of God is used to check the spirit that speaks, if it is of the Holy Spirit or not. Also, the Word of God is used as the sword of the spirit, that which is used to kick off the devil at every point in time. The bible says, resist the devil and he will flee from you [ref. James 4:7], and how you do that is by using the Word of God for that situation, and this was what Jesus did all through when He was being tempted of the devil till He kicked him away using the Word of God [ref.: Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13].
There is one message and that is about Christ’s crucifixion, burial, and resurrection and its meaning and benefit to the world by the grace bestowed upon us. The moment any message goes outside this, it is no longer of Christ anymore. Now, this is important because many times, we could hear the Word of God from a person and at another time, we could hear a message which is not from God, therefore of the devil. Now, this doesn’t mean that the person who was speaking the Word of God was later possessed by the devil, not at all. We should understand that the devil cannot possess a person who has the Holy Spirit in him, the way the devil gets to pass his message across to spirit-filled people are through suggestions. The devil could suggest a thing and the person could see the idea as a good one and would then propagate the wrong message. This is why we as Sons of God are to be well grounded in the Word of God in order to discern the spirit behind every spoken word. Jesus did this with Peter when Peter was rebuking Him from going to the cross [ref.: Matthew 16:21-23]. It may sound like a person who is concerned, we shouldn’t be led astray, even though it may sound like a person who cares for you, the truth is it would always contradict that which God has called you for. Remember, the devil comes as a wolf in sheep clothing, who also pretend as an angel of light, we all have to be careful because he is a deceiver [ref.: Matthew 7:15; 2 Corinthians 11:14].
We are to be alert at every time, not being carried away by every wind of doctrine no matter how nice it sounds. The devil doesn’t like you, isn’t sympathetic and would do everything to ensure your downfall. Be on guard, he is not more powerful than you, remember, Jesus has disarmed him of all his abilities, so don’t make the same mistake Adam made, by giving him powers he doesn’t possess by thinking he is powerful. This is how people get defeated by the devil because they feel the devil is powerful and once he sees your folly, he capitalises on it by working on your mind. This is why you need to know who you are Christ and also where you stand. Always test the spirit.
May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
