Our Sacrifice for Others

Happy Weekend everyone,

The Message Bible puts 1 John 3:16-17 thus, “This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to lay sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just to be out for ourselves. If you some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God’s love? It disappears. And you made it disappear.” Today’s topic is a continuation of yesterday’s topic.

1 John 3:16 emphasised on how we ought to do things sacrificially for our fellow believers, just as Christ Jesus was sacrificial to us as He laid down His life for us in order that we would live. But the love shouldn’t be expressed to the believers alone. Verse 17 of 1 John 3 says if we see a brother or sister in need, we shouldn’t turn a cold shoulder and do nothing. Sometimes we might say we don’t do such things, but when you look closer, you find out that we a time select those we would rather like to show love to, but this should not be. Our love in terms of help should be expressed to anyone in need when you have the means to help.

We often times condemn people, the way they dress or speak. We look at people who are not believers and do not have the class we can accommodate and condemn them, even when they are in need. The truth is that if that was how Christ treated us, nobody would be saved today. Also what we need to remind ourselves with is that we are sent as Ambassadors of Christ to the world, and it is Christ love shown through our way of life that not only meet these people in their time of need but also makes them want to follow Christ, this is so because it through Christ love for us that we are saved. We saw how in our condemned state He stretched out His hands in love towards us, thus accepting us, this is how we are to treat people because we are change agents.

When you truly meditate and understand the love Christ demonstrated towards us, we allow His love and not our love flow through us to the brothers and sisters around the world, because it is His love that saves, and we are to show this through our way of life.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
