You see, many of us were born into a Christian home, whether true Sons of God or were just religious people who went to church. Either way, it would be tagged as a Christian home. Growing up, we often don’t ask deep questions about being a Son or Daughter of God. We just know that Jesus died for our sins to give all those who believe in Him eternal life. We have a set of rules to show that we are Sons or Daughters of God, which in many ways are religious, rather than a personal conviction or relationship with Christ Jesus.
So, many times we don’t pay attention to the details of what it means to be a Son or Daughter of God until we have a personal revelation of who Jesus Christ is. And this has nothing to do with being born into a Christian home, but a personal conviction in Jesus Christ. This is where we want to know why the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus were so important.
What I write here isn’t anything new to many, but taking time to rethink it and meditate on it is the importance of this write-up.
Back to the beginning, Adam ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, despite the warning from God. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was there for man to express his ability to choose, thus making use of his free moral agency. If the tree weren’t there, man would be stuck being bound to a decision which really wouldn’t have been a decision because there would have been no option.
But God, in His loving kindness and mercy, gave us a test and also told us the answer to the question, and what would happen if we pick the wrong answer despite being given the right answer. What else could be more loving than that? But Adam, despite all these, still picked the wrong answer. He never knew how huge the result of choosing the wrong option could get, as his entire generation was doomed to death, because he got separated from Life Himself, and was dying off because of his wrong choice.
Only a person within his generation who was connected to God, thus having a perfect spirit (depicting a lamb without blemish) could redeem the whole of humanity back to God through His death. Death on behalf of all mankind (ref.: Hebrews 9:22), thus man having the option to choose Life [God]. And the one who did this was Jesus.
Jesus redeemed man from the shackles of death. And His death broke the bondage of sin that separated the “Adamic” race (the whole world) from connecting with God Almighty, while Jesus’ resurrection confirmed it (ref.: 1 Corinthians 15:17). And the resurrection brought about a brand new beginning. Sort of like God saying “You got off on a wrong start, why don’t you start all over again as a brand new person I have never met?” (ref.: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20)
Now the test is presented to us again. It is either to remain in this world and get destroyed with it, or to accept Jesus as a brand new life and beginning. And again, the answer was given, and that is to accept Jesus (ref.: John 3:16, 18). Jesus is our new Adam, an Adam who cannot sin, no matter what, because He is God.
The death of Jesus is of extreme importance to us individually, and His resurrection is our hope being answered, as God has given us a second chance to retake the test.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t? Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised you from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank you for saving me!” Congratulations—you’re born again, and you are now brand new!
