What is Your Foundation? (Part 1)

Everything in life has a foundation. From our thoughts to our actions, they all have a foundation on which they are established. Every building has its foundation, without which the building collapses. But then, even when a building has a foundation, if the foundation isn’t strong, it collapses. This goes to say that having a foundation isn’t the issue but having the right foundation is.

As a Son or Daughter of God, or as a church, what is your foundation? Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27 that whoever hears His sayings, and does them, would be likened to a person who built his house on the rock. And despite the rain, floods and wind descending on the house, it won’t fall, why? It is because the house is founded on the rock.

But Jesus said the case is different for the person who, despite listening to Him, doesn’t do what He said. Jesus said that person would be likened to a person who built his house on the sand. The same rain, floods and wind that descended on the house on rock also descended on the house on the sand. But what was the difference? The house on the sand crashed because it didn’t have the right foundation.

The focus of this parable Jesus gave is that even if the house on the rock and sand were built using the same materials, it is the foundation that determines the outcome of the structure. This means that for a person to call himself or herself a Son or Daughter of God, what makes that true is the foundation, and not any foundation, the right foundation. And what is the true foundation of any Son or Daughter of God? The ‘what’ here is a ‘who’, because Jesus is the true foundation of anyone who claims to be a Son or Daughter of God.

So, why is this so?

Jesus is the beginning of the new creation; therefore, through His resurrection, He became the new or last Adam. Anyone who confesses Jesus, and believes in their heart that God raised Him from the dead, they become born again (ref.: Romans 10:9; John 3:16). In other words the person becomes dead in the spirit to the life he or she was born into (from the first Adam), and then born again with a brand new spirit or life into the kingdom of Jesus as the new Adam.

This is not something new to many of us, but my attention here is that anyone born again emerged from Christ Jesus as their Adam, their God, their King, His temple, their life, and His body (ref.: Daniel 7:14; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:16, 15:45; Revelation 19:16).

Jesus came to redeem us from the curse of death caused by sin to allow us to be united and become one with our Father in heaven—God, thus knowing Him. And this was achieved through His death, burial, and resurrection. Anyone who accepts this new life is born again. And this is the gospel, or good news, we are to take all around the world for people to know what Jesus has done for the world.

Jesus is not only our foundation, but our saviour. He is God, the Word of God, and our ONLY focus. And when I say only focus, I mean the very life of Jesus has become our life. We are to meditate on Him alone to manifest His life as ours. We are to fix our eyes on Him alone to activate the peace of mind within us because in Him alone we have true rest and are to have complete trust.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t? Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised you from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank you for saving me!” Congratulations—you’re born again, and you are now brand new!
