Guard Your Thoughts, Guard Your Life

There's no one I know that would tell me he or she took a decision without first thinking about it. In some past write-up's of mine I wrote that the words are the more powerful than actions, explaining that actions are the effects of words. In other words, there is no action without words. But today I'd look deeper into the words, because to know how important this is, you'd then know why certain actions are made by you.

Every word we speak is first processed in our thoughts. Also, every decision we make which we speak or not, are first processed in our thoughts. So, before words are thoughts.

Now, this is how serious thoughts could be, they could carry the same power of words. Everyone is at a state of rest in the mindset, and this state of rest is our thoughts lie. So, our words are most powerful when they tap from the state of rest of our thoughts. This would imply that the foundation to a perfect life start with the thought.

Other words used as a synonym to thoughts in scriptures could be heart or mind.

Romans 12:1&2 explains that now that we have presented our everything we do, everything as regards our bodies as a living sacrifice, we then see the fulness of Christ manifested in our everyday life as we renewed our minds [which is our thoughts].

Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life." Why is this so important?

This is why guarding our thoughts is of extreme importance, especially for anyone who is born again. The moment you received Christ as Lord, your old spirit died, and the Spirit of Jesus became your new Spirit. Therefore, you had the mind of Christ Jesus, everything that He is you have become, in summary Jesus is now your life, (ref.: 1 Corinthians 2:16; 1 John 4:17; Colossians 3:4). But only your Spirit was completely transformed into that of Christ Jesus when you became born again, and not your soul (mind, will and emotion) and body. The mind is where you need to renew to allow the flow of who you are to come in.

Your Spirit is you, your soul is the link between you and your body. Your soul is the gate that allows what comes into the body, and it is where the thought lies, and that is what the devil is after.

Remember, all that Jesus is, you have become in Spirit. It is left to you to study and know who Jesus is and believe that He is all you are in order to be renewed and see the transformation in your body as you would start living the fulness of Christ.

So, when you study that by His stripes, you were made healed, it implies that sickness and diseases are under the feet of Jesus and therefore are under you. This is what your thought should rest on. But the devil does everything possible for you not to know that you have been healed, so he brings every sort of distraction and lies appearing real for you to believe as true, and this goes against who Jesus is and who He has made you become. And so, it is highly important to guard your heart and mind, because whatever you believe which is where you thought has rested on, it becomes your life.

Let's look at Ephesians 6:14b & 17. Verse 14 says, "having put on the breastplate of righteousness" while verse 17 says, "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God"

The breastplate protects the heart. The time you gave your life to Christ, aside confessing with your mouth the Lord Jesus, you also believed in your heart [which is very important], that God raised Him from the dead. This was an assurance with you that gave you a brand new Spirit. But connected to heart is your thought, because it was with the thought that you confessed with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and that is why verse 17 of Ephesians 6 as us to put on the helmet of salvation which reminds us of where we stand, and how it all began. And therefore, it protects us from the lies of the devil trying to get into our thoughts.

So, we remember that Jesus is Lord over every situation in our lives, therefore the devil cannot get into our thoughts, and we remember that we because of Jesus, we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, which stands as our breastplate. But to add to that, verse 17 of Ephesians 6 tells us that the word of God where we rest on in the real sense is our sword of the Spirit. That which attacks whatever the devil has planned against us.

This would imply that our thoughts and heart gets its strength from the sword! This is because we won't remember what Jesus has done for us by being the righteousness of God without the word of God.

This would also mean that though the helmet and breastplate serves as a protection, which in the real sense is a reminder of who we have become in Christ Jesus, we are to also shout it back at the devil that this is who we are, and where we stand using the word of God, and it destroys the plans of the devil.

In conclusion, our thoughts are to rest on all Jesus is right now, because all of Him is now all of us. And as we remind ourselves through the meditation of the word of God, we are strengthened and can't fall victims of the enemy, who is the devil. And most of all, in all these, as we rest on the word of God, we live and become the word of God, who is Jesus Christ, (ref.: 2 Corinthians 3:2-3).

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
