What Do You Take More Seriously Than Food?

Hello everyone,

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I admired how Jesus spoke when He was here on earth. I find His words very powerful and so full of Wisdom (even though He is Wisdom personified). My focus is on His address to His disciples at the well in Samaria where He met the woman who came to fetch. This address was when His disciples came back with food after they went into town to get some food.

The Bible records that Jesus was weary from His long journey and wanted to rest. His disciples had gone to buy food. It was then Jesus met the woman who came to draw water. Jesus ministered to the woman through a normal conversation. It was after the whole discussion His disciples came back and met Him speaking with a woman who was a Samaritan. So John 4:31- says, “Meanwhile, the disciples urged Him saying, Rabbi, eat something. 32 But He assured them, I have food (nourishment) to eat of which you know nothing and have no idea. 33 So the disciples said one to another, Has someone brought Him something to eat?” AMPLIFIED. Now, this is the part which is my focus today in John 4:34-35 which says, “Jesus said to them, My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him Who sent Me and to accomplish and completely finish His work. 35 Do you not say, it is still four months until harvest time comes? Look! I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields and see how they are already white for harvesting.” AMPLIFIED.

Verse 34 wasn’t saying that we shouldn’t eat physical food anymore, rather the lesson Jesus taught His disciples and us is that there is nothing as important as fulfilling the mission God has called us here on earth to fulfil. It should be a food, drink, our number one focus in life, and this was what Jesus achieved when He spoke with the woman. He taught us the importance of seeking first the kingdom of God and nothing else. Jesus showed us that it is even more important than physical food because lives are at stake, people are dying without being saved and this should not be so.

In verse 35 Jesus emphasised the importance of going to harvest immediately because there is no set time to begin because it has already begun. The final harvest is at the second coming of Jesus, but Jesus is telling us that the harvesting starts with us going to harvest because people are being deceived daily and are dying without being saved. For it is the will of God that all should be saved, and it is our duty to ensure that this happens, there is no time to waste. What are you doing for the harvest? Do you know your calling from God? Many feel only those who want to go into ministry are the called, which is quite sad, because the moment you accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, you have been called. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be as those in Ephesians 4:11, it could be in anything [that glorifies Jesus], as long as you are being led by the Holy Spirit. The world needs us, everyone should do their bit to save the world from destruction.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
