Hello everyone,
Yes, we had a sinful nature which was completely against who God is, and as a result of the sinful nature, we portrayed the works of the flesh such as adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness and many more. This was normal because we were not in right standing with God, but then we accepted Jesus into our lives, it felt like heaven on earth, we were on fire for Jesus, it happened we didn’t have any form of works of the flesh. But after several months passed, all of a sudden we weren’t on fire as we felt when we received Jesus into our lives, not only that, we started seeing the works of the flesh raising its ugly head in our lives. We could see things like jealousy, lust, envy, and even fornication rearing its heads in our lives. I thought we were saved from these acts of sin when we received Jesus into our lives? So why all these sinful acts? Does that mean we are no longer righteous or holy any longer? Is it going right back to the beginning of having a sinful nature all over again? Today, I’ll look into all these questions that bother us in our Christian lives.
The very first thing we should know is that while we were still in the very act of sin, not ready to change, Jesus died for us and made us righteous, (ref.: Romans 5:8). This was how God demonstrated His love towards us. What this means is that it wasn’t because we chose to change our lifestyle that Jesus then decided to die for us, in other words, it wasn’t by what we did that God made us righteous, but because of what Jesus did. In the same vein, it wasn’t because of what we did that we had the sinful nature, we were born with it because of what Adam did. In the real sense it was never because of what we did, but because of the sin nature, we found ourselves in. So, is that it? I’m not done yet.
God’s love for Man was so much that rather than wiping us away, He found a way of saving us while He kills the sin spirit in us. In other words, we had to die in order to live, and in living, we were resurrected into a brand new life, not under the first Adam, but under the new and last Adam—Jesus. But that’s not all.
We are Spirit beings, we possess a soul, and live in a body, (ref.: 1 Thessalonians 5:23). The Spirit in us which is the most important, in other words, the Spirit is our life and this life was a spirit of sin, but this spirit died and a new Spirit was given in order for us to live, and this Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus, the Spirit of Truth, which is the same Spirit of God. In other words, we were reconnected back to God. Now, that this is clear, why do we still fall into sin?
The acts of sin don’t come from our new Spirit, but from our soul which is a combination of our mind, will, and emotion. It is also the place where our consciousness dwells. The most important to God is our Spirit, which is why we are righteous in God’s eyes now because we have the exact Spirit of Jesus Christ. The Spirit is meant to be the grand commander which the soul is meant to obey, and the soul is that which the body is meant to obey. In other words, the soul is the link between the Spirit and the body. The question now is, are our souls obeying the Spirit? And if not, what is causing the disobedience? Log on tomorrow, same time as I address this questions?
May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
