Hello everyone,
The great commission is a very popular thing I believe almost everyone in a church gathering must have heard about. When asked where it is in the Bible, we could be quick to reply saying Matthew 28:19, but are we really doing what the great commission says? My focus actually is on the verse before verse 19 of Matthew 28, so what does it say? Matthew 28:18 say, “Jesus approached and, breaking the silence, said to them, All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” AMP. It was after this He said, “Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days (perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age. Amen (so let it be).” AMP. My focus today is that we should really meditate on why certain things were said, we shouldn’t just rush through believing that we know. So even if you know, let me explain the importance of Matthew 28:18.
In my country where I live, and in most countries, the Head of States or the President, as the case may be, is the overall head of the military, the President is the one who can give direct command to the military which must be obeyed, which implies that the President has the authority to overrule any command given by any commanding officer lower than he is, it also implies that if a General gives an order, a recruit who is one with the lowest rank can bridge that command, just because the President gave that recruit a command which stands higher than the command given by the General. Why am I saying this, Jesus said, “All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” Which is clear to say that there is no authority both in heaven and on earth that is greater than that of His. It was with that authority and power of rule that He then said, “Go then and make disciples of all the nations…” the power and authority to do that are not of our own accord, but with the authority of Jesus, this is what we must take note of. Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Do you know Whose authority you’re under? We need to know Who He is, because if you think everything that has a name doesn’t know Him, then you don’t know Who He is. And when I say “name”, I mean everything that is a noun in any form; from people, to creatures, to organisms, to water, to non-living things (which we think isn’t living), to everything that has a name, even diseases, sicknesses and many more. Once you have been given a command from Him, carrying out that command won’t be with your authority but His authority and you must present this, which means you must carry His badge of command on you and in you, so that as you get to your place of assignment, you don’t need to talk too much, just coming in His name has given you access, because He is our authority.
In as much as Jesus is our authority, do not go where He didn’t send you because you won’t be covered, this is why you must be led by the Holy Spirit. The Sons of Sceva went to do what they weren’t sent to do, this was why the evil spirit didn’t recognise them, (ref.: Acts 19:11-20). You must be sent and to be sent, you must be baptised in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is a mark of one carrying the Spirit of Christ because without this, you cannot function properly. You cannot put new wine in old wineskin. The command of Jesus is of the Spirit of God of which only the carriers of that Spirit can follow the command, this was why Jesus told the disciples to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit before they can carry out the mission which He gave them, and which is still our mission today.
Do you know whose authority you are under? Know Jesus more and more, the confidence you have in Jesus allows everything to bow, just because of His name.
May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
