On Becoming a Son of God

Hi everyone,

There is a short song I love so much, I love it because of its lyrics which is so powerful. The lyrics go thus: By His grace, I am redeemed, by His blood I am made clean, and I now can know Him face to face. By His power, I have been raised, hidden now in Christ by faith. I will praise the glory of His name.
This song summarises what you get when you make Jesus Christ Lord of your life. I intend to expand on the lyrics, thereby explaining how important your life is in Christ, and you shouldn’t take things for granted.

The first line says, “By His grace I am redeemed” to be redeemed means to be saved or rescued, and this means we were saved from the life of sin that leads to death, all these happened because we were given a brand new life by God through Jesus, this is where the second line comes in, which says, “by His blood I am made clean” the only way we could get a brand new life is if someone had to die in our place, as what was sown, had to pay for, and it was Jesus who decided to take our place in His stead while He gave us His life, thus making us the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, (ref.: 2 Corinthians 5:21). Through the blood of Jesus, we were made clean, for without which there is no remission of sins, (ref.: Hebrews 9:22).

Since Jesus has freed us from the life of sin, it means we are no longer sinners, in other words, we don’t have the spirit of sin or the sinful nature anymore, because it has been replaced with the Spirit of Christ [which is an act of grace from God] (ref.: Romans 6:14). But the acts of sin for one who is born of God is done on purpose, it is no longer a way of life, and this is why those born of God should constantly walk in the spirit in order not to fulfil the lust of the flesh, (ref.: Galatians 5:16). Know this, you stop being a sinner the moment you become a Son of God, but you can choose the way of death by fulfilling the lust of the death, it’s a choice, but a person born of God is meant to be with the Lord on the last day, unless he or she chooses not to.

Anyone born of God can now know God face to face, which is the third line which says, “…and I now can know Him face to face.” This is only possible because we come before the presence of in the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus is the reason why we found grace in the sight of God, and power and authority of God can never function in our lives without the name of Jesus. Which has to do with the next line of the song which says, “By His power, I have been raised, hidden now in Christ by faith.” As God raised Jesus, we have been raised with Him by grace, and as such it implies we were crucified with Jesus, in other words nailing our old nature to the cross. We were buried with Jesus through baptism into death and raised with Him into the resurrection of a brand new life, (ref.: Romans 6:4; Galatians 2:20).

The last line says, “I will praise the glory of His name.” because of what we have become, it is a thing to praise God for, because if we could only see how terrible it was for us in the spirit realm in our sinful state and how wonderful it is for us now in Christ, then we would give God permanent praises. What Jesus did for us on the cross shouldn’t be taken for granted and we should always meditate on it as we receive more revelation from that which would strengthen us.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
