Happy Sunday everyone,
Humility is not as easy a one may think, because, in the world we live in, pride is what rules the world, while humility, on the other hand, is regarded as being foolish. But what many don’t know is that to work with God means you have to be humble, in other words, you cannot have faith without being humble.
As the scriptures explain to us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble, [ref.: James 4:6-7; 1 Peter 5:5-6], and why is this? This is so because pride is the complete dependence on your self-efforts and achievement, which would also imply that you rely on yourself, does that mean that getting degrees and working hard is wrong? No getting degrees and working hard isn’t wrong, but it would become wrong when you are the one guiding yourself.
To elaborate further, the man was designed to be guided or mentored, which is why successful people would advise you have a mentor. Now, the chief purpose of having a mentor is to guide your dreams or ambition till it manifests successfully, but with all these, the knowledge acquired does not come with wisdom, this is why when we study to acquire great knowledge there is this pride that comes in as your then step up what you call ranks of greatness and then sideline those who were your friends before but didn’t step in knowledge or wealth as you. With all these, it is hard to know when God calls you, why? It is so because God’s pattern does not follow that which the world follows, it requires you dropping all that you “laboured” for and then following His ways. Remember, God is wiser than everyone put together even beyond eternity.
To follow God is to follow what He asks you to do with no intrusion with your human logic, because God who asked you to do what He said knows the outcome even before you do it, but the human logic is based on assumptions and probabilities and it would interrupt what God sent you to do. He is the one who would tell you what to what course to study, that is if you are to go to a formal school or what training to get or what to do generally. His aim is for you to live the life He created you to live, it all has to do with total trust in Him. Not everyone is meant to follow the trend the world has created such as the schooling and job pattern, He opens your eyes to see clearly.
Let’s not get things wrong by thinking God is a tyrant that only His way goes without us asking any questions. Nope, we serve a God who is ready to listen to you if what He sent you isn’t clear enough, and is ready to listen to your own suggestions. He explains why He has sent you to do a thing and why your method won’t work. He cares and always listens.
John the Baptists in the Gospel of John was told that Jesus was baptising and many were coming to Jesus, in other words, Jesus was stealing the show, but what did John say in John 3:27-28? “John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’” He went on further in verses 29 and 30, “He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.” It takes only a person who has completely surrendered to the will of God to say something like this, because, first of all, John was full of the spirit from birth; had the spirit of Elijah; was greater than every prophet that ever lived before him, [ref.: Luke 1:15, 17; Matthew 11:11]; he had every reason to shine, but his ministry was just till Jesus came which was just six months.
Humility is not being foolish, but letting go and letting God, not because someone just told you to do so, but because you have come to the understanding that the way of God in Christ is the true way God created you to live and to fulfil this is to allow God to take you by the hand and lead you.
Jesus should be our role model and our mentor should be the Holy Spirit, it is only through this that true humility is attained. Jesus in His glory did not even consider Himself equal with God, in showing us how to live, He humbled Himself as a servant to the point of dying on the cross, [ref.: Philippians 2:5-11]. Humility is not as easy as we think, it takes the spirit of God in us to attain true humility and allowing God to use us and unlocking the Grace God has given us through faith.
May the LORD bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you. May the LORD be gracious to you and lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. AMEN.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
