Living a perfect
life here on earth is quite impossible because we are still growing. For
believers you have a gene of perfection, which means you are perfect. However, (using
a child as a good scenario), a child who is learning how to work has a perfect
way of walking in his but pending the time the child walks perfectly, he falls
several time. This is the same for the believers; we grow every day, just as
Ephesians 4:13-14a further explains the purpose of our growth. “Till we all come in the unity of the
faith, and in the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the
measure of the stature and fullness of Christ: that we henceforth be no more
children, tossed to and fro...”.
God is a God of
perfection, He can’t stand seeing flaws of any kind; so what happened to the
flaws we keep committing every day? Many of us think God just overlook our
flaws like that since Jesus died for our sins. If you believe this then you
need to completely understand what Jesus did and what He didn’t do.
We must
understand that God is the same and never changes, so if someone got punished
for committing sin in the past, then the same is applicable today (keep on
reading I’m getting somewhere). God saw that man would keep on sinning so He
decided to solve the problem once and for all by sending His Son to die for our
sins as we all know. But what did Jesus really do on the cross? The blood of
bulls and goats which was used for the remission of sins didn’t completely wipe
of the sins committed permanently so when another sin was committed another sacrifice
would have to be made. This wasn’t so for Jesus, the bulls and goat were a
shadow of the real sacrifice: Jesus [Hebrews 9].
Jesus being a
sacrifice was offered once and for all the sins of humanity permanently, which
implies He died for our past, present and future sins. Let me give you an illustration;
there is a boy who gets flogged for doing anything wrong, so the man who kept
flogging him for any flaw decided to save himself the stress of flogging him
every day by flogging for every flaw he would ever commit in future. So,
anytime the boy falters he doesn’t get flogged because he had been flogged
ahead of time. This is the exact thing that happened to mankind, but instead of
we getting the “eternal” punishment, Jesus who was innocent decided to take our
place just as the bible puts, “So Christ
was offered once to bear the sins of many” and “By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the
body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands ministering
daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away
sins. But this Man. After He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever,
sat at the right hand of God...” (Hebrews 9:28 and 10:10-12 respectively).
So, anytime you
falter always remember you would have been punished but Jesus took your
punishment over 2,000 years ago on your behalf. It’s all because of His love
for us and this is the gospel truth.
Why not accept
Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus,
I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God
raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank
You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand
new!
