1 Corinthians 16:13 says "Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong." As I meditated on this verse, the Lord put in my heart certain things Sons and Daughters of God should always take note of, especially in this last days. And when I say last days, I mean last days, because we can't deny the filth that has become a norm in our society. So, let's look at the verse.
The first thing to note is the term watch. The world is very deceptive, full of all sort of things that could pop up at anytime. And as we shouldn't forget, the devil is the god of the world, full of speaking deceit into the hearts of man right from the garden of Eden till today. So, we should be alert by as we move about, as we watch the television, interact with people, knowing the wiles of the devil, and knowing when Holy Spirit is speaking to us.
The second thing to note is standing fast in faith which signifies growth in Christ, because growth through faith requires knowledge in the finished work of Christ. The more we attain this knowledge, the more our faith grows, and we know how to watch better.
The third thing to note is to be brave. As we hold on to Christ we would be persecuted. And in order to stand our ground on what we believe, which is holding onto the truth, we must be brave, full of confidence.
The last thing the verse points out is to be strong. One thing we cannot avoid when holding onto Christ is persecution. And as we hold onto Christ by being brave in the midst of the persecution, we must not give in, we must be strong. Now, we are strengthened by the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit cannot just keep strengthening us on the same knowledge we haven't improved upon. What I mean is that our faith should be strengthened all the more in the midst of persecution, which is continually growing in faith.
The world from the time man fell, has been based on fear. And the absence of faith is the presence of fear. So, when we focus all the more on the truth through the word of God, the Holy Spirit strengthens us in all we do, and we stand our ground on truth, which is what we believe by being brave. And this allows us to be alert, for we recognise the voice of our Shepherd —Jesus, when He speaks, thus allowing us not to fall for the thief or robber who has brainwashed the world through ignorance.
Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
