The Heart Of A Child Is Blessed

When I look at kids, I see how happy and relaxed they are in their own world, which of course looks very different from ours; sometimes I just miss being as free as they are. Jesus’ disciples one day came and asked Him who the greatest in the kingdom of heaven is, and Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3-4 (NKJV). What is so special about children that we need to have their type of heart before entering the kingdom of heaven?

Children’s way of reasoning is very much different from adults; try to remember how you reasoned when you were a kid; there was a sense of peace, no worries, no struggles and you were always full of joy and freedom. Things changed when you started to become more responsible for yourself, and eventually the childish nature left. Take note, I said more responsibility chased away our attitude as children, does that mean what Jesus was saying was for us not to be responsible? No.

Take a look at children again, they are not conscious of themselves; a child could play without clothes on and won’t feel ashamed because he is not conscious of being naked. Again, children look up to their parents as their superheroes, protector; they rely on their parent for everything; they don’t bother themselves for any, they trust what they need is provided once mummy and daddy are available. This is the humility Jesus was talking about for us to have.

Apostle Peter said we should humble ourselves before God so that He would lift us up; and we are to do this by casting all our cares, worries, burdens upon God because He cares for us [ref. 1 Peter 5:6-7]. This is how children behave to their parents; they cast all their worries and burden upon their parents because they believe they care; they don’t try to fight things by themselves, they bring it to mummy and daddy; this was what Jesus was talking about.

Until you start seeing God as your Father who cares for you; as one who we are to place every worry on and believe He has taken care of everything, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. The problem with many of us is that we trust in our abilities a lot and they fail us; even when they fail us we try again. We trust in our books, degrees, as the way out of any difficulty which would never work or give a permanent end to any problem. As a problem seems to be solved, an even greater problem emerge due to our so called solution, an example is crime rate. This is why not many wise men today are called; instead God chooses the lowly ones; the ones who don’t have anything to brag about [ref. 1 Corinthians 1:26-28].

Apostle Paul, when he made Jesus his Lord found he counted all his degrees and accomplishments as rubbish; he decided to focus on Jesus alone [ref. Philippians 3:8]. To rely on Christ Jesus alone is not being foolish but being very wise. Why struggle things out when you could cast all your problems upon Jesus; for He Himself said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV); again He said “...for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NKJV). You can only find this when you’re humble in Him.

Don’t look at what your friends would say or your family, I assure you having the heart of a child by looking unto God can never be a regret, I assure you; to look unto Him is to empower our faith [ref. Hebrews 12:2]. As I said you can never regret being a child once again, but this time towards God who is your Father. If you regret this move, let me know; but I’m sure I won’t get any feedbacks on regrets. It’s because of His love and care for us that all these are so; this is the gospel truth.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!
