The Heart Of A Child Is Blessed

When I look at kids, I see how happy and relaxed they are in their own world, which of course looks very different from ours; sometimes I just miss being as free as they are. Jesus’ disciples one day came and asked Him who the greatest in the kingdom of heaven is, and Jesus said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3-4 (NKJV). What is so special about children that we need to have their type of heart before entering the kingdom of heaven?

Children’s way of reasoning is very much different from adults; try to remember how you reasoned when you were a kid; there was a sense of peace, no worries, no struggles and you were always full of joy and freedom. Things changed when you started to become more responsible for yourself, and eventually the childish nature left. Take note, I said more responsibility chased away our attitude as children, does that mean what Jesus was saying was for us not to be responsible? No.

Take a look at children again, they are not conscious of themselves; a child could play without clothes on and won’t feel ashamed because he is not conscious of being naked. Again, children look up to their parents as their superheroes, protector; they rely on their parent for everything; they don’t bother themselves for any, they trust what they need is provided once mummy and daddy are available. This is the humility Jesus was talking about for us to have.

Apostle Peter said we should humble ourselves before God so that He would lift us up; and we are to do this by casting all our cares, worries, burdens upon God because He cares for us [ref. 1 Peter 5:6-7]. This is how children behave to their parents; they cast all their worries and burden upon their parents because they believe they care; they don’t try to fight things by themselves, they bring it to mummy and daddy; this was what Jesus was talking about.

Until you start seeing God as your Father who cares for you; as one who we are to place every worry on and believe He has taken care of everything, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. The problem with many of us is that we trust in our abilities a lot and they fail us; even when they fail us we try again. We trust in our books, degrees, as the way out of any difficulty which would never work or give a permanent end to any problem. As a problem seems to be solved, an even greater problem emerge due to our so called solution, an example is crime rate. This is why not many wise men today are called; instead God chooses the lowly ones; the ones who don’t have anything to brag about [ref. 1 Corinthians 1:26-28].

Apostle Paul, when he made Jesus his Lord found he counted all his degrees and accomplishments as rubbish; he decided to focus on Jesus alone [ref. Philippians 3:8]. To rely on Christ Jesus alone is not being foolish but being very wise. Why struggle things out when you could cast all your problems upon Jesus; for He Himself said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV); again He said “...for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NKJV). You can only find this when you’re humble in Him.

Don’t look at what your friends would say or your family, I assure you having the heart of a child by looking unto God can never be a regret, I assure you; to look unto Him is to empower our faith [ref. Hebrews 12:2]. As I said you can never regret being a child once again, but this time towards God who is your Father. If you regret this move, let me know; but I’m sure I won’t get any feedbacks on regrets. It’s because of His love and care for us that all these are so; this is the gospel truth.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!

Mind How You Live

Jesus while giving His sermon on the mount talked about those He would tell He never knew on the last day. Matthew 7 from verse 21 says, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of the My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (NKJV).

In an earlier blog of mine, I explained what the will of God is, which is to listen to the Holy Spirit who would get you transformed by the renewal of your mind. So, once this is done, your mindset falls in line with that of God which of course is living the will of God. Living the will of God would be a natural thing for you; but these people Jesus spoke of performed wonders in His name and not another, so where did they miss it?

Matthew 25 from verse 31, Jesus explained how He would separate the sheep from the goat and of course those Jesus spoke of in Matthew 7 are part of the goat group; so what makes a person a sheep and another a goat? Jesus said, “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.” Matthew 25:35-36 (NKJV). These are the ways those Jesus called sheep lived their life without pretence, because when they replied Jesus, they said they didn’t know when they did these commendable things; as for the goats, they didn’t do any these even though they claimed to have performed wonders. It implies once you do any of those things mentioned above out of selfish interest such as fame or public announcement, they won’t be counted in heaven.

As Apostle James explained, a Believer who is not just a hearer but also a doer of the Word is expected to live a life of pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father which is: “...to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” James 1:27 (NKJV). This should be a natural act, being led by the Holy Spirit; but what do we find today, people announcing to the public when they give to the less privilege which is what Jesus said we shouldn’t do [ref. Matthew 6:1-4]; or we see people who give, so that they get blessed by God; true, you get blessed when you do this, but that should not be our focus, instead welfare provision out of love and compassion should be our focus and nothing else; this is how you really won’t take note of these things because it is who you are, and on the last day God would count you as sheep.

When you accept Jesus Christ and allow His Spirit flow through you, everything we do should be out of love and compassion just as Jesus did while here on earth. Mind how you live and you can do this by listening to the Holy Spirit, I can’t stop saying this. We should love and care for people from our heart just the way God loves and cares for us; this is the gospel truth.

Gratitude 2

Yesterday, I explained the importance of gratitude to our lives as a whole. Gratitude strengthens relationships; when you are grateful, people are ready to go the extra mile and make sacrifices for you; but when you lack the spirit of gratitude, you lose your relationship with people and you become spited on. The news of your sad attitude goes round as one who isn’t grateful. As a result of this, an unforgiving heart grows in you, making you bitter and one who complains. The truth is that things won’t work to your favour; you tend to struggle to get anything done; you may feel you’ve achieved something but this comes with much toiling and labour.

Simon Peter asked Jesus in Matthew 18:21 how many times he was to forgive someone in a day, Jesus told him he should forgive a person 490 times in a day which of course what Jesus was actually saying was for us to always forgive.

In line with this, Jesus gave a parable which He likened to the kingdom of heaven. Jesus said the kingdom of heaven could be likened to a man who owed his master 10,000 talents (a hundred thousand dollars) and couldn’t refund the money. The master had already ordered that the man be sold along with his wife and children; but after much pleading the master had compassion on the man and forgave his debt and let him go.

When the man went out he found a fellow servant like him who owed him 100 denarii (ten dollars), he then demanded for his money by force, but the other man pleaded with him that he would pay up. The man wasn’t satisfied and locked him up; the news got to the master about what had happened and demanded to see the servant he freed earlier of his debt for he was very angry. The master said he couldn’t forgive a fellow servant of his debt that was worthless compared to what he was forgiven of. Due to this, the master handed him over to the torturers till he paid up [ref. Matthew 18:23-35]. Jesus said this is what His Father would do to those who do not forgive his fellow brother his trespasses.

You probably would say “but God has taken away all our sins, so why would He hand people like the man in the parable to the torturers on the last day?” The answer is very simple; an unforgiving heart is an attribute of an unsaved man and not a Believer. The bible says in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (NKJV). This is linked with what Jesus meant in the parable; if God could forgive our sins even when we didn’t deserve it, why can’t we forgive a fellow brother his fault?

It is the love of Christ towards us that compels us to become Believers. But when one becomes ungrateful for what Jesus did for him, he develops hate towards people and he finds it hard to forgive. He starts complaining about everything and won’t have compassion. If this person claims to be a Believer, it won’t be long before he backslides or become a religious fanatic. It is Christ’s love that gives us the reason to be grateful to people and where we are; it is with this that we allow the blessings of God to flow in our lives.

When you are grateful, you have peace of mind; joy flows through you and you start seeing your problems walk away gradually; sickness leaves, poverty goes, pain ceases and many like this. Always see the good in everything around you and be grateful for it, it is with this you would overcome and live the Christ filled life. This is because of the love Christ has for us and this is the gospel truth.

Gratitude

I love children, they make me happy even though they could be naughty a times, but even with that I could go a mile in helping a child achieve a thing; but I could even extra miles just because the child had something inside that was let out, and what could that be? Gratitude! I don’t know about you but this has a tremendous effect on me. This should not only apply to children but to everyone as a whole, this is very important in our lives, but people don’t what this could fetch them, let’s find out.

Many people today don’t know that to break barriers in life, gratitude is so important. Let’s take an example of a man who is in need of food; he met another person who helps him, but the one who could help had just a little to spare. The man in need accepted the food but when he discovered another person who had so much more to spare which of course is more than what he was offered by the previous person, he spites him and says to himself, “what did the first man give me? Nothing, I had to struggle all the way, but look, God has blessed me someone who has more than enough!” This action has closed any help that could come from the first man.

Lack of gratitude leads to an unforgiving spirit and makes one become one who complains; you can see this in the attitude of the Israelites wilderness on the way to the promise land; they didn’t appreciate God saving them from the hands of Pharaoh; giving them free food and meat, as well as water. As a result of this, only two people who left Egypt made it to the promise land.

We must always know that when we appreciate what God has done for us we allow more of His blessings flow towards us. Complaining implies we don’t appreciate what God has given to us; and if you’ve noticed those who complain don’t go far in achieving things. Be grateful to God and see His blessings flow. This is the gospel truth.

The Spirit Of Perfection

God’s original plan when He created the world was for it to be perfect, because anything God creates is a reflection of Himself, which was perfection. When you read the creation story in Genesis 1 you will find out after God finished a day’s work He would see what He had done and call it good; and when God calls a thing good, it implies that it has reached the zenith of which nothing could be better. Now, Adam sold this perfect world to one who had an imperfect spirit (the devil) and of course once the world was in the hands of an imperfect being, then everything done by that person is a reflection of the spirit the person possesses. Let’s look at the Believers life in this light.

The world has been controlled by the devil and this implies everything we did was imperfect and therefore not up to God’s standard. As we know Jesus came to restore that perfect spirit of God to us, which of course would reflect in our attitude. Jesus brought perfection to this world so it is left to us to choose what spirit we want.

Jesus performed a lot of miracles, but the miracles really happened because of the spirit He carried which was the perfect spirit; so when He laid hands on people, He sent perfection into them, which was the way God wanted. Sickness, diseases, poverty, being possessed by the devil and many like these, are all not from the perfect spirit of God; you could see this from the story of the woman with the issue of blood, she touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and perfection flowed into her [ref. Matthew 9:20; Mark 5:25; Luke 8:43]. Every miracle Jesus performed was just the movement of the perfect spirit into an imperfect entity.

As Believers, we all got the perfect spirit of God the moment we accepted Jesus as Lord, so our spirit is the same spirit that Jesus possesses, that is why we are joint heirs with Him [ref. Romans 8:17]. When we declare words over a thing, the power of perfection takes over; it could be a sick person, your job, even the weather! Remember if nothing is impossible with God, then nothing is impossible with you because you possess the spirit of Jesus, all you need is just to believe in what you possess.

Our words are powerful because whatever we say affects something, this is why Jesus said He will judge every idle word, “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgement for every careless word they have spoken.” (Matthew 12:36- NIV). This judgement implies that every word we say contains word meant for use, for perfecting a thing and not without purpose; this is seen in God almighty as He never speaks without it affecting something.

So, when you lay hands on someone, you send perfection into that person; when you speak it contains power and perfection, so mind where you send it. Remember, the Holy Spirit is our guide on how to use the raw power we have been given, all to give glory to God; it’s because of the love He has for us and this is the gospel truth.

The Real Principle Of Tithing (Part 2)

Yesterday, I explained how our entire life and what we own belongs to God; and should be what we use to honour God as a tithe. All what God wants is our heart; Jesus said where our treasure is there our heart will be also. The bible says in Proverbs 23:26, “My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.” (NKJV); this is done in faith. So what you give God as a tithe is determined by the level of the faith and trust you have in God who is your provider.

Now, don’t get me wrong, giving the regular ten percent is not the issue; the issue is for you to always remember that God owns everything you have and has given them to you to serve Him by observing His ways. There is no specific mention of how much we are to offer God, because we live by faith in love not by rules.

When we read Malachi 3:10 which says, “...Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” (NKJV); we should understand this was written under the dispensation of the law; so if we are to look at that scripture, we are to look at it with the eyes of this dispensation of God’s grace.

Tithing is a reflection of your heart and who you trust and have faith in. What God really mean in the scripture stated above is that the more you put your trust in God, the more you get blessed, in other words the more you trust God, you allow God’s grace to abound in your life. Remember, God knows all what you need; as you seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness you allow the opening of the windows of heaven full of blessings that you won’t have enough room enough to receive it.

Our focus should not be on how much we could make while offering our substance to God because this is a wrong intention. We serve the more than enough God, so we should always have faith in Him. The more you see what God has done for you; you just increase what you offer God and then allow the blessing flow through everything you do. It is not exactly the giving that brings the blessing; instead it is your increase in faith that gives room for the blessings to flow, so your increase in faith affects your giving; so have faith in God. It’s all because of God’s love for us; this is the gospel truth.

The Real Principle Of Tithing (Part 1)

Living here on earth implies you would need food to eat, clothes to put on and shelter to live in; wealth acquisition is important, but it defers from a person to another. However, there is a mystery behind wealth acquisition, as we know it is God who has laid down basic principles to acquire wealth; there is a principle of giving of which one of them is the principle of tithing. Tithe is a tenth of a person’s substance given to God, while the remaining ninety belongs to you. Now if my definition of tithing is what you believe then you really don’t understand the principle God has set for the new covenant.

You see, many people follow the first tithing principle which is first seen by Abraham in Genesis 14:20 when the Priest Melchizedek blessed Abraham after which Abraham then gave the Priest a tithe of all the spoil. People believe since Abraham was blessed by the grace of God through faith, which is the dispensation we live in presently; then we are to give a tithe of ten percent to God. This is mistake people make and you need a proper orientation on what giving means.

You must have heard the story of a rich man who willed all that he had to his slave but just gave his son the opportunity of picking only one thing among the entire wealth. The wise son picked the slave, which implies that whatever the slave own belongs to him; this was what happened to us the moment we gave our life to Christ; we were bought with a price and this includes everything we own. This means the so called ninety percent that we think is ours belongs to God. So, the real tithe is giving everything back to God and not ten percent!

When you come to the understanding that God owns everything you own, it would then be clear how God wants you to use the wealth He has given you which is for a mission. Our life here on earth is just like the parable of the talent Jesus explained to us in Matthew 25:14-30; the wealth given to us is for investment which is to be multiplied for Him and not us. It is blessed to give than to receive; who and what we are to give is left to God to do the thinking and not us. Many of us sow wrongly and reap wrongly. Jesus said in Luke 12:32-34 saying “Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heaven that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (NKJV).

Our treasure is the kingdom of God, as for things we need, God has provided for them; He directs us how we are to use what He has given us. Investment is a God principle, but we are not to make the decision ourselves, He is. When you know and understand God owns all and everything has been provided for you by God, it helps our faith by seeing God as our source as He directs resources to locate us. Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given back to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38 (NKJV). So, how well you trust that God has provided your needs determines how you give. There is no measurement of tithing in the new covenant because, it is by faith that we give. What if you don’t have faith when giving your ten percent, this would mean you’ve just thrown your substance away without gaining anything. It is by faith that we live and remember; you work for God and not for any other person. This is the gospel truth.
