The Benefits of Humility

Several times we’ve heard a lot about humility being a good moral virtue, but humility is actually beyond just a good moral virtue; it is a path way to greatness and power. However, many people don’t know the importance of humility.

Let’s take a look at Mr. A and Mr. B who had a deep misunderstanding. Mr. A was the true cause of the misunderstanding and Mr. B on the other hand wanted an apology which Mr. A refused to give; he also refused to admit he was at fault. However, Mr. B decided to apologise even though he wasn’t at fault; this ended the quarrel. The power to do this is humility even when it isn’t easy. This act didn’t only strengthen Mr. B, but it also strengthened Mr. A, of whom the apology was made to. What Mr. B might not know is that he earned more respect from Mr. A than before! This is a sense of maturity.

In the bible, to allow God into your life, thus dropping everything and following His will is the highest form of humility you could offer, because the bible says. “Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.  1 Peter 5:6-7 AMP.

When you allow God to take charge of your life, you do things you knew you wouldn’t have been able to do before, if not for the grace and the strength given to you by God. When you see the life of Jesus, you see humility, the bible says, “And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross! Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name...” Philippians 2:8-9 AMP. God gave Jesus the name that is above every other name. This happens to us when we do what the scriptures say in 1 Peter 5:6-7.

As a believer, having challenges and claiming you can take charge of it by yourself won’t take the problem away, it would only worsen it. This is why you see a believer who is poor and the poverty doesn’t seem to get any better. It is pride that is in your way, nothing else! Some believers feel it is wrong for believers to have great wealth, so they decide to remain contented with their level. Others feel when they have health issues it is normal. This is pride and not humility!

God doesn’t make anyone poor or sick or have challenges. The moment we face any challenge it is the moment where we look up to God and cast our problems on Him [ref. 1 Peter 5:7], this is the humility God expects from you. As you allow Him to take charge you see all your challenges fade away gradually and miracles start happening. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls." Matthew 11:28-29 AMP. This is the life God wants for us, and it's all because of His love for us and this is the gospel truth.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!

Be Careful For The Wiles Of The Devil (2)

Yesterday, I wrote on being careful for the wiles of the devil. I explained how we could overcome the devil by using the armour of God, according to Ephesians 6. However, it doesn’t happen all of a sudden that we just make use of the armour of God just like that. We need to properly understand how the sly the devil is and how we shouldn’t be caught unaware of his moves.

There is just one thing we need to understand about the devil. The devil ones coveted the throne of God, of course he couldn’t dethrone God. So he said he would be like the most high. What we have to understand is that even though he has been banished from heaven into eternal damnation, he still wants to be like the most high. The question now is to understand the glory of The Most High GOD which would make us know exactly what the devil wants.

When you read the book of Isaiah 14:13-14, you will find the key things the devil coveted from God. “For you said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.” These things were what Lucifer (later the devil) saw that God had control of. So, my point here is that the devil still wants everything God is getting such as praises, glory, dominance, and so on. So if that’s the case what do you think the devil would do to achieve this? He would imitate God, but of course being a semblance doesn’t mean it is the real thing.

This is why as someone put, “Satan is not fighting churches; he is joining them. He does more harm by sowing tares than by pulling up wheat. He accomplishes more by imitation than by outright opposition.” Satan is a wolf in sheep clothing, he lures righteous people to the wrong way as he twists the scriptures and if you are not careful, you could fall prey. He attacks our thoughts in order for us to confess the wrong things. For instance, as Christ is our Lord of all, He is our protector and shield, however, we have the power to leave His protection or do any other thing because of our free moral agency.

Now as the devil knows that we are protected by Jesus and can’t touch us, the devil sends a false feeling, take for example a headache. As we are under Christ’s protection, we cannot be attacked, once we remember that, we are to cancel any false stand against our solid stand in Christ through the word of God which would dissolve the headache because it isn’t real. But the sad news is that, many of us would confess, ‘I have headache’ and once that is said, the headache becomes a real headache, just because of our confession.

What does this mean? It means that we are only to confess only on what is true, just as Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things.”

Your Doctor’s report saying you have cancer is not true neither is it good report; your bank saying you have financial deficit isn’t lovely at all. I could go on and on. The point is all these things may appear so real to you, but it is either the word of God is lying or the world is, the answer is left to you. You have to be convicted by something, because you can’t sit on the fence! If you’re are for Christ, then go all out and accept His fully, and not partially. If He has said He has blessed us with all spiritual blessings, then why do we think we are poor? All these falsehood is from the devil!

What we don’t understand is that just as the bible says in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Without faith we can’t please God, and to have faith in God we have to believe in His existence first. Faith and belief pleases God and this is what the devil wants, it is either you believe God or the devil. And the devil wants us to believe him, which is in line with his quest for power.

As I said yesterday, if we don’t regularly study and meditate on the scriptures which contains Philippians 4:8, then we could easily be deceived by the devil. A sparkling white shirt and an off white shirt could both be white shirts but they’re not the same. Be careful for the wiles of the devil by focusing on the word of God and not the word of the world. The moment you receive any news that doesn’t correspond with where you are right now in Christ, start to confess who are so that what is not of Christ would not dwell in your mind and becomes a fact. Remember the devil is the father of lies, there is no truth in him.

Be Careful For The Wiles Of The Devil

There is no doubt that when you humble yourself before the Lord He would lift you up in due season thus, casting your entire burden upon Him because of God cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 says this but verses 8 and 9 say, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” KJV. You are expected to resist the devil in faith by being careful of the devil wiles. But to do this you need to be equipped.

Ephesians 6 talks about the whole armour of God and the whole armour include: loin girt of truth; the breastplate of righteousness; feet shod of the gospel of peace; the shield of faith; helmet of salvation; and the sword of the spirit. All these can be achieved by being humble before the Lord who in turn empowers you on how to interpret the scriptures properly.

Every part of the armour are the privileges we after becoming Believers, but we need to develop ourselves through the meditation of the scriptures day and night which would in turn strengthen our use of the whole armour of God and eventually not fall for the wiles of the devil.

When you are close to God through the regular study and meditation of the scriptures through the leading of the Holy Spirit you can’t be deceived by the devil, because if it’s not of God, it can’t be God.
Things become straight forward with God when you meditate on the word of God with the help of the Holy Spirit and as you grow you won’t fall for the wiles of the devil. It’s all because of God’s love for us and this is the gospel truth.

A Life Full of Luxury

The world is a place full of struggle and those born believe the world was meant to be like this, but NO! The world wasn’t like this at the beginning. Believers live a luxury full life, but don’t get me wrong, we have work to do. When I say luxury, I mean we don’t go through the stress of thinking; we just dwell in the presence of God and we follow His directions, as simple as ABC.

In the world, there are times when we face challenges, maybe an economic problem, it would be a normal thing for the best economists to proffer a solution using their theories, sweating until they arrive at a breakthrough. But on the other hand Believers get steps to follow in order to arrive at the final solution to the problem. So, we follow steps from the Holy Spirit. God told Isaac to remain in the land where he was during a famine while others ran to Egypt, and guess what happened? He prospered! [ref. Genesis 26:1-12].

Joseph is another man who didn’t allow his circumstances take over his life. He believed in God and because of that when Egypt had a severe famine, God used Him to save the world [ref. Genesis 41]. God knows the end from the beginning but we can’t see beyond our noses. So, why not trust the ‘all knowing’ God to give you a luxury full life. He has blessed us with all spiritual blessings. Jesus said, the Lord God knows everything we have need of.

Know the Son of who you are and stop giving yourself unnecessary stress by following the sad trend of the world. But prosperity and favour is from the Lord. All these are because of the love Jesus has for us and this is the gospel truth.

Really, What Is The Will of God?

What is the will of God? This is a question that comes to everyone’s mind especially believers. Well, if you want a straight forward answer, we could take a look at 1st Thessalonians 5:16-18 which says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Three things were stated in the scripture read which are: 1. Rejoice always, 2. Pray without ceasing, and 3; in everything give thanks. It sounds very simple right? Yes it does, but no one just wakes up in the morning and rejoices always or prays without ceasing or gives thanks in everything. There must have been a propelling factor that caused these three to exist in the first place. What is this factor?

Romans 12:1 and 2, explains this. It says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” These verses make 1st Thessalonians 5:16-18 clearer and how can it be achieved.

One has to first of all present his body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. When this is done, there is the need to be transformed by the renewal of the mind which would make one not to conform to the patterns of the world. The minds renewal would lead the person to PROVE what the good, perfect and acceptable WILL of God is for one’s life. But again, how can one just present his body as a living sacrifice to God?

In order to present yourself as a living sacrifice, it has to do with you and what you stand for. According to Galatians 2:20 from the Amplified version, it says, “I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” This implies that once you’ve accepted Jesus as LORD and owner of your life, you are supposed to know that it is because of what Jesus did on the cross, thus He taking your place and through His resurrection that you are saved. (NOTE: IF YOU WEREN’T TOLD THIS, FIND A BELIEVER TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU). Now after this, you are expected to adhere to, rely on and have complete trust in JESUS with the Holy Spirit in you whom God has sent, Who is now your life [ref. Colossians 3:4].

Now when this happens, the Holy Spirit enables and strengthen you to present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. Then you get transformed by the renewal of your mind through the study of the Word of God, (ref. 2nd Timothy 2:15). With this, the Holy Spirit who is in your counsellor explains or interprets what the Word studied means, thus allowing the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart become acceptable to God. And diligent thought on His Word, naturally you then prove what the good and acceptable and perfect will of God is.

This is a vivid look at what really leads to knowing the will of God. The truth here is that all these stated above (1st Thessalonians 5:16-18) happens within split seconds, but it still appears technical right? It could be, but if you really want something, you have to be disciplined and diligent, and see the result hit you like a bomb.

To Live And Not Just Exist

Hmmmmn… you’re born, you go through primary, secondary school and then you go to the university. You get a good job, later acquire wealth probably through investment; you get married, have children, grow old, retire, have grandchildren probably have great grandchildren and then go and see the Lord. This looks like a great life right? But is this what you were born for; to just repeat a routine of life and die? Nothing has been added!

Even if you choose to go to church and read the bible regularly but end up following the same sequence of life you just existed, that’s all. Now don’t get me wrong, going to school is wonderful; of course if you didn’t school, you probably won’t know how to read, not to talk of writing. These however are the basic things to be learnt. My point here is for you to know the reason for your existence here on earth. There is reason for your existence and it defers from another person. The real reason for your existence is not a routine created by man.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:13 “Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.” (Message). Ok, so our attitude is expected to reflect godliness, but let’s further look at the verses ahead, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and [aa] recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 AMP).

Our being salt and light is to reflect Jesus. As Jesus said He is the light of the world and those who follow Him shall have the light of life [ref. John 8:12]. This light is the same light as that of Matthew 5, we are to reflect Him. What this implies is that when we accept Jesus as Lord and have received the Holy Spirit, after this the mystery about our life is then revealed as we remain in Him [ref. Colossians 1:27]. We are to live the will of God for our lives and it can only be gotten in Jesus Christ.

So, how can we do this? The bible makes us understand that Christ is our life [ref. Colossians 3:4]. Therefore, our life itself should be Jesus personified every second of our life; that is, being led by the Holy Spirit, whether at school, work or anywhere. People should notice the difference in the way you do things, and how successful you are, always portraying the fruit of the Spirit and would cause them to ask what you do differently from others just as I said yesterday; this is when you tell them how Jesus gave you a new life and He being your direction. This would cause them to praise God in heaven for such Grace He has given to men.

Your life should not be a rigid, religious way of doing things, like living your life of the law and living Jesus’ life of Grace. You can’t mix the two; Christ is your life, you are breathing Him! We are here on a mission which of course would imply that we as Believers shouldn’t live the general life, because there is a specific life God has called you for, and this requires deep commitment to your calling in Christ by not being distracted.

The Image of Christ

We all have a lifestyle to which we are known for, to the point where if something different from what you are known for, your parents or those close to you would quickly say, “nope, that’s not my son”. How did they know that? It’s not what they know you for; your attitude is very important! This is different from a movie scene involving you. The role you pick is not you; this is similar to religion. For religion, you are just acting a script that is not you. But the believer is expected to have the lifestyle of Christ.

The believers’ life is not a life of pretence but an expression of their true self which is the life of Christ. This is an important aspect for the believer because many times we pick dates for evangelism in our church groups and we think it is until have an official outing that we get people converted to Christ. This is not entirely so; it is your lifestyle that is the most important aspect of evangelism. This is called: living the gospel.

People use your life as a yardstick how your gospel affected your life in a way that encourages them to listen in the first place, which would later make them accept Jesus as their Lord. The life of a Believer is meant to be an exemplary one; take being prosperous for instance, as you live the life of Christ, people come and ask you what you do that makes you so prosperous. This is when you tell people about Jesus and how He has transformed your life. People like to see things first hand before they go for it or not. You are to become the living the Word and after that share it. Your lifestyle draws people to Christ even without saying a word, just as the scripture says in 2 Corinthians 3:3, “Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.”

The life of Jesus was a natural lifestyle of God that when He spoke people wondered how He had such great knowledge of God, His lifestyle drew people to Him. This was the same for the early believers and that’s why they were called Christians [ref. Acts 11:26]. Going for evangelism is wonderful but what you are talking about is expected to be your life. God put His nature in the heart of the believer, that’s why we are to act just like Him [Hebrews 8:10-11]. God made things so easy for us because of His love for us and this is the gospel truth.
