Meditation Is Key [reviewed]

We live in a world, but as we see ourselves, we come in three parts; our being is comprised of the spirit, the soul and the body [ref. 1 Thessalonians 5:23]; our soul is where our mind, will and emotions are. Our spirit is who we are; in summary we are spirit who possess a soul and lives in a body. Our spirit is what connects to our soul the power, authority and spiritual abilities; but the decision to allow the spirit to control the body lies with soul. The soul is that which connects the spirit and the body.

The moment we accept Christ into our lives, we receive a brand new spirit, which is the exact same Spirit of Christ which is the Spirit of God. Our former spirit we left, left our soul and body polluted, however the source of our pollution is gone. There is the need to be transformed through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.

However, as we receive this new spirit, we need to properly understand who we really are, thus allowing the fullness of God into our soul and then into our bodies. This is when we start acting exactly as Christ [ref. 1 John 4:17]. As we take out time every day and night to praise God and meditate on the scriptures, it shifts our mind to living the new life. We need to know the motive behind praising God and meditating on the scriptures. With this we live exactly how God wants us to.

What should our motive be? Our motive when praising God and meditating on the scriptures should be seeking a deeper relationship with God that is, always looking for what He has already done.

When we praise God, we praise Him for His love and mercy and grace towards us and how great He is and how He governs the universe and so on. And when we meditate on the scriptures, our focus should be on seeing God’s grace in every scripture, what God did for us through Jesus. By this we are looking unto Jesus and our focus is keened on Him.

The Holy Spirit allows the soul get used to being focused on Jesus because it is our new life. And whatever the soul does, the body follows suit. The process is easier than this explanation because the Holy Spirit Himself will guide us throughout the journey, telling us how to live our life. It’s all because of His love for us and this is the gospel truth.

Why not accept Jesus today if you haven’t. Pray out loud, “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Saviour. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!” Congratulations, you’re born again, you are now brand new!

Watch The Words You Say (2)

Yesterday, I talked about why we need to watch the words we say because our words are full of power and it commands things to happen, and we speak anyhow, we could unleash what we never wanted in our lives. Today, I’ll be writing still on this topic, but on how we could contain the words that come out of our mouth.

The answer to the question is simple, it is meditation on God’s Word. Meditating on the Word is very important, as it affects our heart. And as it affects our heart, it becomes who we are and as we become full of the Word of God, it becomes what we speak. Remember that our word affects whatever we channel it to. So, if it appears you have a financial issue, being full of the Word of God, speak the Word of God over your financial issue and remain in it; the same thing applies if you have a health issue or any other issue. Soak yourself in the Word of God and overflow with the Word of God when you speak, allowing it to control your world.

Speaking of world, many of us have forgotten how our words bring things to pass. My point here is this, as Christians, we are bound to be persecuted because we are different, unique and do not follow the trend of this fallen world. As a result, the world is doing everything possible to wipe out the Believers, (which is impossible just so you know). They talk about their plans, how they intend to achieve their evil agenda. My point here is, this is not news to us! We’re not supposed to help them propagate their message, while we lose touch on our focus, which is to go into all the world and preach the goodnews. It is not news that the world wants to wipe out Believers, but it would be wrong of us talk and dwell on it. By dwelling about this always, it registers in our heart and before we talk about it seriously as one who believes it would come to pass, and it would come pass.

You know what makes me shake my head it the fact that some Believers when it comes to pass would say, “I said it, I warned them, but they didn’t listen”. What I would say is, “what did you do to prevent it?” We think warning other Believers about it would stop it, rather it would make things worse by bringing it to pass; don’t allow your words to put you in trouble. As I said, it is normal for the evil one to plot evil against God’s people, but to spread the message is to spread fear. But the scriptures says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” [2 Timothy 1:7]. There should always be peace in our hearts not tension because the scriptures again says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things.” [Philippians 4:6-8].

Are the messages of fear we’ve been broadcasting good report, praise worthy or worthy of meditation? Do not meditate what isn’t of God; you can only talk about it for one purpose only, which is to encourage Believers to spread the goodnews to the lost and not to create fear. It should only be a sign to us that we need to work harder in spreading the Word and not to create fear in our lives. As we keep go about spreading the goodnews to the lost, we would eventually spread it to those who planned on destroying the Believers, and when they get saved, there won’t any threat on our lives (to think logically). An example to this is Saul (Paul) of Tarsus.

Jesus told His disciples that the harvest is plenty, but there are few labourers [ref. Matthew 9:37; Luke 10:2]; as we hear news about people trying to wipe out Believers what should come out of our mouth is, “that’s a harvest for me”. Then you take your request to God to give you the wisdom how you can win those people to Christ! Watch what you say or else your nightmare becomes your reality.

Our focus should always be on the mission Christ has given us and nothing else. There is power in the words of the Believer, so we aren’t to speak anyhow. Jesus said, “For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.” [John 12:49]. In line with this to us, Jesus told His disciples that He would send another helper, who is the Holy Spirit. He lives in us and He is to guide us into the light of truth, how to speak and what not to speak.

As we study the Word of God, the Holy Spirit interprets to us, this is where inspiration comes from. So, if you want to develop your nation, then meditate on the Word of God with the help of the Holy Spirit, as you do this, it becomes what your meditates upon daily and as a result becomes what you speak, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” [Matthew 12:34]. Do this today and see your Words become the exact Word of God as the Holy Spirit leads and guide you.

Watch The Words You Say

We speak words out of our mouth, that which we use in communication. We haven’t actually sat down to think about the verb ‘communicate’. The communication I’m talking about means ‘to transmit information; to transmit thoughts or feelings; be in verbal contact; interchange information or ideas; join or connect; transfer to another. So, when we speak, we bring any of the following stated above to play. I’ll repeat that again, when we speak, that is, bring words out of our mouth, we do any of the following meaning of the verb ‘communicate’ stated above to pass.

Why do I keep emphasising the verb ‘communicate’? I’m doing so, because our words are powerful that bring things to pass; our words either develop or destroy. Just as King Solomon said, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” [Proverbs 18:21]. So, why am I saying this again? When we speak either causing death or life on a thing.

If you remember when Jesus was hungry and He saw a fig tree ahead, expecting to see figs on it and found out there was nothing, what did Jesus do? He spoke to the tree saying, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” [Mark 11:14]. Just as He said it, the tree died and the effect was seen the next day. There is power in our words and this is active in every human, but is very active and powerful in the mouth of every Believer, because we make use of the power of Christ who has authority over the heaven, earth and under the earth. So, the question is why isn’t my life reflecting the life Christ wants me to live? Check again, you’ve been mixing death and life in your life! That’s why you aren’t seeing the transformation you’ve always expected.

We need to be very careful how we speak; King Solomon said, “Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it springs the issues of life” [Proverbs 4:23]. The heart determines what we say as Jesus when speaking with the Pharisees said, “Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement. For by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned.” [Matthew 12:34-37].

Our words make and create, it comes from our heart; and God would judge every word even the idle words that we felt didn’t count, we would give an account of our words. But, how do we watch our heart, allowing the right words come out of our mouth? Log on next time.

What Do I Call Serious Business? (2)

In part 1 of this topic, I explained that to follow Jesus Christ is the ultimate business, but some people would ask how much money they would make from that. That question is what I call a lame and unserious, why? Because when you experience God, you would go the extra mile because of the awesome experience you have in Christ. And of course, when God sees your dedication, He takes care of your need. He isn’t called our provider for nothing.

Today, I would take a look at something Apostle Paul said about walking with Christ which is serious business. In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul wrote saying, “He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord-how he may please the Lord. But he who is married cares about the things of the things of the world-how he may please his wife.” he went further saying, “The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world-how she may please her husband” [1 Corinthians 7:32, 33 & 34].

Paul explained earlier saying, “But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.” (1 Corinthians 7:29-31). Paul explained to us that even though getting married isn’t a sin, it is a distraction because even though a man would want to please God when he gets married, his mind is divided. We are meant to be soldiers in the field so we cannot afford for a second to take our eyes off the mission.

Ephesians 5:16-18 says, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” These are the days where we need to work in the spirit, because the world is passing away and lost, and we are the labourers in the Lord’s vineyard to redeem the lost to Christ. If you are to get married, you must get married to someone who helps you achieve your mission, a help, meet for you, just as God created Eve for Adam (ref.: Genesis 2:18); one shall chase a thousand, and two ten thousand [ref. Deuteronomy 32:30]; this should be your case, and not your spouse slowing you down. This is serious business and not a time for relaxation; draw closer to God and you won’t get anything wrong because He is your direction.

The Importance of Spiritual Discernment

We live in a world where things happen and we call them natural event. But I’m here to tell you that there is nothing natural about anything that happens here on earth; there is always a spiritual connection for everything you do, even to the food you eat. Now, there are two forces that operate in this fallen world of ours, and they the force of truth and the force of falsehood. Apostle Peter said in 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” But why do people choose not to repent? It is because of the spirit of falsehood which the unrepentant have chosen to follow as a result of their free moral agency. This is why the Believers are to work with God in reaching out to the lost in order to get them saved.

There are things that happen that only those with the spirit of discernment can interpret things correctly. Let’s take a look at the devil for instance; he is the most cunning of anything that exist, he is a master deceiver and a master of lies; his aim is to kill, steal and destroy thereby not allowing anyone come to repentance. As a master deceiver, he presents things that look just like the original, BUT isn’t original. So the question is how do we know which is the original and which isn’t?

Jesus gave us a quick way of detecting what is true and what is false in Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” This is very helpful, but how do we identify the false prophets? Jesus went further saying, “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?” and “By their fruit you will know them.” [Matthew 7:16 and 20].

So, we know how to identify the false doctrine, but how would you know the false doctrine if you don’t know the true doctrine. Jesus showed us how He was able to differentiate further the true and the false doctrine when He was tempted. The devil as always would always bring reasons why you should take his offer, which he did to Jesus. When the devil tempted Jesus, He overcame the devil using a powerful and the only method, which is the use of the Word of God, the scriptures! Jesus was well grounded in the Word that anything that didn’t look like it was false; even when the devil quoted Psalm 91:11 and 12, Jesus didn’t still fall for it, why? It is because the devil quoted wrongly.

What the devil said was, “He shall give His angels charge over you, and in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” [Matthew 4:6] What was wrong with quote? Let’s take a look at the correct quote, “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways, in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” [Psalm 91:11 and 12]. The devil couldn’t quote the part that was underlined because it has to do with depending on God. Anyone who doesn’t place God as a priority in depending on Him, recognising Jesus as Lord of ALL clearly isn’t from God but from the devil.

When you meditate on the Word day and night, you would easily recognise the wolf in sheep clothing, this is of course is through the help of the Holy Spirit, because as we meditate on the Word daily we strengthen our Spirit man and spirit of discernment.

How GOD Operates When Working With Us

Yesterday, when I wrote about what I consider serious business, I wrote on the truth that working with God is not with the use of the flesh, this is not new as I’ve been writing for a while how the use of the flesh (the five senses; carnal mind) and your walk with God cannot go hand in hand. The dependence on the sixth sense which is the Holy Spirit is what makes life easy for us. However, today my topic is based on how when we look at the sixth sense in action, it makes no logical sense, not just that, but even in life and death situation; but with this we need to hold on to Him (Holy Spirit), even if what we are asked to do by the Holy Spirit doesn’t make ANY sense. Let’s take a look at Gideon and how God used him.

An Angel of the Lord came and sat under a tree close to where Gideon was threshing wheat; the Angel appeared as a man, but that’s not the point. He saw Gideon and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valour!” [ref. 6:12] The statement didn’t make any sense because Gideon didn’t look anything like a man of valour, not to talk of being mighty. You see one thing we need to understand is that when God declares a thing to us like blessing, even when it doesn’t look like it we just need to accept it. Why? Because as I said earlier, we are blind without the Holy Spirit, we don’t know anything beyond our nose, but the Holy Spirit knows you, where you are headed and what you would become. However, we can change it by not believing it, but if you don’t believe God, what you would believe would be a negative way of life no matter how juicy the present situation may appear.

Gideon felt he didn’t worth any of the things the Angel told him, because Gideon said, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” [ref. Judges 6:15] But you know the funny thing, it is someone like Gideon God loves to use, someone who doesn’t have anything to brag about, as the scriptures says, “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.” [1 Corinthians 1:27-29]. What God is saying is, it is His ways and not yours, we are not to help God, He is to help us as we walk with Him, following His ways.

The Midianites had oppressed the Israelites and to put an end to this oppression, there would a battle between the Israelites against the Midianites. It is logical to select the finest men of about 32,000. Yep, that’s exactly how many people Gideon gathered. But you see, when you’re working with God, don’t bother advising God with the knowledge you gathered from school, it’s just waste of time; just follow God’s instructions.

God told Gideon that the people were too many, so Gideon cut the number to 10,000 men. God said the number was still too much, so Gideon cut the number down to just 300 men! All these were Gideon following God’s instruction in how to cut down the excess. It was with the 300 God said, “By the three hundred who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand.” [Judges 6:7]. You could almost shout, “God, are you crazy? How can three hundred men win the battle against the Midianites.” But you know, He is not called the Alpha and the Omega, our Deliverer, our Victory, our Fortress and Strong Tower for nothing. To stand with God implies whoever comes against you comes against God. He has fought our battles for us, all we have to do is just listen to Him as He go and the spoils.

I don’t know about you, but I serve a God who is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent, has He said, and will not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? He is the one who blesses us and cannot reverse it [ref. Numbers 23:19-20]. Seriously, if after all these goodness the LORD has displayed and you’re not ready to stay with Him, then YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN.

What Do I Call Serious Business?

I’m a young man, so that implies I haven’t lived so long on earth yet to have a lot of experiences to explain to people what serious business is; this fact for me is what I won’t buy, I’d rather stick with the truth and not the fact. The truth for me is that I’ve gathered a lot of experience to teach people what serious business is. And that is what I intend to explain to you all today.

There’s a story, I love reading that helps to strengthen my Spirit man; I don’t know about you, but Luke 5:1-11 is where the story is; and of course it really happened. Just a quick one; hard work without the direction of the Holy Spirit is like a blind man crossing a fast moving, extremely busy ten lane highway alone; just to let you know that.

Now back to my story, Peter the fisherman (before he became a disciple), is a professional at his job, so it is logical that anyone whom he would listen to ought to be someone who job is related to marine life. He had toiled all night with his team in search of fish but couldn’t find any. And here comes Jesus (who is known as a “carpenter”) in the morning seeing Peter and saying to him, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” [Luke 5:4] Really Jesus sounded silly because what does he think the fishermen had been doing? Playing? But really I believe there was a conviction from the Holy Spirit for Peter not to get angry and listen to him as he said, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing: nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” [Luke 5:5]

You see, this is how people miss their blessing; Peter most likely would have seen Jesus perform miracles, which would have been the reason why he gave him preference. Jesus asked Peter to let down [his] nets, but Peter let down the net. Peter had a great catch to the point where his net started to break and his boat started to sink. It was then Peter said, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” [Luke 5:8]. Peter later followed Jesus when He called him to be a fisher of men. Well, this is where my topic begins with the decision Peter made; he left all and followed Jesus.

So, what do you think I consider serious business? The decision Peter made is what I call serious business; he left all to follow Jesus. Jesus is our sustainer and the one we work for, but how serious is this business? Jesus said in Matthew 16:24-25, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. For whoever wishes to save his life [in this world] will [eventually] lose it [through death], but whoever loses his life [in this world] for My sake will find it [that is, life with Me for all eternity]” AMP.

To follow Jesus is a very serious business, it is not something that you just delve in and delve out; you must be ready to take persecution from people. Peter made up his mind when he took the decision to follow him. However, to follow and remain with Christ is not something of your physical ability but spiritual. An example again is Peter, when Jesus told His disciples that they would all flee when He gets arrested. Peter bragged that even if all would flee at Christ’s arrest, he won’t flee; even as Jesus told him that he would deny Him, he still bragged that even if it meant dying with Him He would die with Jesus. But you all know what happened, as Peter denied Jesus three times [ref. Matthew 26:31-35; 26:69-75; Mark 14:27-31; 14:66-72; Luke 22:31-34; 22:54-62; John 18:15-18, 25-27].

To follow Christ is of the Spirit and not of the flesh; it is the Holy Spirit that keeps us going on strong, strong in the business we have been called. Peter again and John in Acts 4 was arrested by the captain of the temple and the Sadducees and they had to face the Sanhedrin. They were full of boldness and wisdom, this is because the Holy Spirit had come to abide in them, who gave them courage.

Following Christ is the ultimate business, this is why Jesus calls it the great commission; we are to understand how serious being a Believer is; it is not a casual thing like to fulfill all righteousness or to complete a list, IT IS SERIOUS BUSINESS! And we need to live the life.
